Puriton, Huel - Meal replacement success?

Hi,

posting here for traffic. I am desperate to lose 10lbs to feel better about myself and I’m thinking of doing either Puriton or Huel shakes for 2 meals a day. Has anyone had success with these? thank you 🙏

For the last 3 months I have been doing HUEL shake for breakfast and lunch, plus a healthy evening dinner. Have lost 24 lbs so far.

It will work as long as you don’t exceed a calorie deficit with your evening meal.

I occasionally have huel for brunch but not for weight loss only because I am lazy/busy but health conscious. It is very filling!

That is incredible @HarrietStyles congratulations! How does Huel taste? Is the consistency ok? Xx

I did huel about 4 years ago now very successfully. I think thank goodness they have changed the formula now - it had a funny aftertaste back then but I used to mix in coffee and sweeetner and have it very cold for breakfast and lunch! It’s a great short term solution but I found hard to keep up in the long run. I am considering going back to it to loose the baby weight though!

@HeyItsPickleRick you are right, I think I just need something that I know how many Cals are in it, easy to make and can fit around kids, work, life….the usual! Do you feel it fits well into a lifestyle? Xx

@OrangesAndLemming that’s interesting to hear, did you manage to keep off all the weight you loss after you stopped Huel or did it all go back on? Xx

Has it improved any? When I tried huel, it was I seriously unpalatable. They asked for feedback, and when I said what I thought, their reply was basically that it's not supposed to taste good, it's supposed to be nutritionally balanced.

If you want someone to eat something long term, surely making it, at the very least, not unpleasant to eat, is a pretty basic requirement...

I love the hurl ready made but it’s so expensive. Is the powder as nice?

Sadly not! But I’ll admit I didn’t try very hard to keep it off - let’s be honest I think the only real way to keep weight off long term is to incrementally change your lifestyle overall! But it works well as a calorie controlled kickstart! X

Helpisneeded100 · 26/06/2023 19:51

@OrangesAndLemming i hear you re changing your lifestyle. I’m hoping if I can lose the weight I can then cut down on the Huel while implementing new lifestyle changes. I am only 5ft tall so I feel I can over eat easily as it doesn’t take much and then all my good work over the week is undone. So I’m hoping if I have controlled portions it will help me. Xx

It’s definitely a good place to start! Currently I’m doing a protein bar, banana and coffee for breakfast for the same reason and similar tactic - I actually know what calories I’m eating and it’s simple and fits around kids! I decided to go down the bar route instead of the shakes again purely because of taste! Hoping long term I can learn to just step away from the cake…. Or takeaway…or chocolate… you get it! 😂 x

I have the Huel complete protein, which is 100 cals, 20g of protein. I like the banana, salted caramel and vanilla fudge. The texture was a bit grainy for me to start with, but I’ve come to like it over time.

Helpisneeded100 · 26/06/2023 20:44

Has anyone tried the Huel Black Edition? There are a lot of products, are there any ones which def don’t taste good so should avoid? Xx

Has anyone tried the meals (that you add hot water to) rather than the shakes and are they any good?

LookingForFreeDoughnuts · 26/06/2023 21:36

I've just bought a taster pack of Purition, should get it tomorrow. Happy to report back if people are interested.

I'm combining it with 16:8 fasting, mostly interested in the nutrient benefits because I've been eating crap lately and want to change habits. And lost weight.

edwinbear · 26/06/2023 21:37

I’ve tried Exante which was good but they’ve changed the recipes and have stock issues currently, so I’m now on Shake That Weight. It’s a complete meal replacement plan but they have a combination of bars, shakes plus actual meals. I had a beef stew with sweet potato and vegetables tonight which was 173 calories and tasted really good, also tried the soups and a chicken curry noodles which was also excellent.

Obviously, long term, a healthy, balanced, low calorie diet is far better for you (which of course you know), but if you want a kick start these do seem to work. I’m just doing it for a couple of weeks before a holiday) and reckon I’ll lose about 7lbs. (After which no doubt I’ll put it all back on with 2 weeks in an all inclusive) 🤣

My son swears by the Mac n cheese Huel.
