Qatar World Cup 2022 - People outraged by human rights and how the World Cup should never have been there. But in a BBC poll the Qatar World Cup 2022 won the best World Cup of the century. People have mentioned things like it was well organised, safety etc.. Of course Qatar has its problem no one is denying that but it is a bit hypocritical when someone says Qatar is bad when the UK gets gas from Qatar plus it has invested a lot everywhere even in the UK e.g. the Shardh, Canary Wharf, Sainsburys and many more things. The virtue signalling was ridiculous e.g. DUA LIPA saying she won't perform in Qatar until it sorts out its human rights issues. This is the same DUA LIPA that did shows in China and Dubai. You are not going to hear the same outrage for World Cup 2026 in Mexico, USA and Canada. Mexico has issues with drug cartels, USA has issues with gun crime, poor abortion rules in some states etc but the media will not spend as much time as it did with Qatar.
The reality is also most people think about their/family benefits when making a decision. So some people might say "I will never go to China, UAE, Saudi, Qatar because of human rights." But if offered the money they would do a runner. If you earn £50k here and Saudi/China/UAE/Qatar offered the same job for £500k most people would definitely leave due to financial security and them bettering the lives of their families financially. I do not know why people have to pretend and lie they would not. Of course not everyone will. But a lot if not most would.
We also see hypocrisy with other groups like Just Stop Oil, Extinction Rebellion who disrupt working people. And a lot of them do not practice what they preach e.g. drive diesel cars, fly to many places every year on holidays etc.. I do not understand the charade. We are doing something good for the planet but we do not live to these standards.
