Do some people just not suit vest tops?

I never feel right in a vest top regardless of my size or my bust size -my shoulders/arms just don’t look nice.
we are led to believe this is a universal shape.

But I’m not sure

Ha ha- hardly anyone looks good in a vest top unless they have a v neat bust, flat stomach and toned arms.

Chasetherainblownfearsaway · 24/06/2023 21:57

Personally I think they look best on people with broad (or at least straight and square) shoulders. If you have sloped shoulders, that might be it?

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 24/06/2023 21:58

I think most people look good in vest tops. I love the slouchy ones from primark. I love a good vest top and live in mine in the summer. But I have lots of tattoos on my arms and love to show them off and I am also pretty much built like @illiterato states.

purpleme12 · 24/06/2023 21:58

Mmm depends.
There are still different styles of vest tops.
I certainly don't suit many but I do own a couple.
I guess the question is have you tried enough on 🤣

Orchidgal · 24/06/2023 21:59

Well I have pale chest, flabby arms and a spare tyre so no vest tops look good on me 😂

2Rebecca · 24/06/2023 22:02

I see them as a young person's thing and then a well toned young person

bonzaitree · 24/06/2023 22:25

Even when I was a kid/ teen I looked crap in them.

This!

Hankunamatata · 24/06/2023 22:46

I used to think that. Hit 40s with hot flushes so can't cope with anything on my arms so bingo wings out for me

mainsfed · 24/06/2023 22:49

YANBU. Even when I was a size 8 vest tops looked weird. Now? No chance.

RiseYpres · 24/06/2023 22:49

Vest tops. ... what you wear between bra and shirt to cover up any nipple outline IMO.

I am top heavy. My silhouette looks like a mushroom. No-one wants to see me in a vest top.

Coinicon · 24/06/2023 22:51

For me, it depends on the vest top! I actually think every shape/size looks good in a sporty/gym-style vest top (racer back, more loose fitting on the belly). I think very few people look good in those casual clingy vest tops.

mynameiscalypso · 24/06/2023 22:53

A sleeveless top or vest top with wide straps can look okay but I agree that not many people suit a traditional vest top.

nobodygoesdowninthejungle · 24/06/2023 22:57

I think that they look best on people with toned arms and a flat stomach. However, that applies to a lot of clothes. At an event two weeks ago, I realised everyone else was in best tops regardless of their shape or size so I went and bought a couple and have felt much more put together than when I was wearing a t-shirt, simply because I no longer feel as though I'm hiding.

RagzRebooted · 24/06/2023 22:57

The thin strappy ones? I used to have great shoulders and collerbones and thought they looked okay on me. In my 20s. Now I'm nearly 40 they're only used to wear under things.

Wider straps and looser fit are okay though.

lurchermummy · 24/06/2023 22:59

They look absolutely hideous on me

Tiddlypomtiddlypom · 25/06/2023 21:44

I love a high neck vest. More of a tank top. Or a high neck racer back. But I’m slight, small boobs, lift weights, and I think my shoulders are probably one of my best features.

mainsfed · 25/06/2023 21:49

What do you for your toned shoulders, @Tiddlypomtiddlypom ?

Goldenbear · 25/06/2023 21:57

I also think you need fairly broad shoulders and thin arms perhaps even not very big cup size but I'm thinking of them looking good in a grungy way in in the 90s ie.like Winona Rider in Reality Bites (then again not sure how broad she was).
