Freaking myself out... can a stitch last all day?

Had a sort of stitch feeling under my left rib all day, not too bad when I sit down but when I'm doing anything else it's there. I wouldn't really say it's a pain but it's more of an uncomfortable feeling. It's hard to describe. Haven't done any exercise today or eaten too quick etc which would normally cause a stitch. Stupidly looked at google and freaked myself out. Could it just be a random stitch that's lasting all day?

You've probably pulled a muscle op! What has scared you that you've seen online?

SilverPeacock · 23/06/2023 21:01

Have you just pulled a muscle? Picked up something heavy or something like that? I sometimes get a pain in that area if I’ve carried heavy shopping bags the day before.

This is what my gallbladder felt like when it started going wonky.

macandcheeseballs · 23/06/2023 21:02

That's what I was hoping but I haven't done anything recently that I can remember that would have pulled anything. I read about it being an enlarged spleen and now I'm worrying which I know is stupid!

P.s. Have you tried doing some simple stretching and breathing exercises?

Sapphire387 · 23/06/2023 21:03

So it's worse when you move? It's probably muscular. I would keep an eye on it, if it gets worse or you get other symptoms you could consider calling 111.

macandcheeseballs · 23/06/2023 21:07

I've tried stretching and that doesn't make any difference. It's hard to explain because it's not like a sharp stabbing pain it's almost like a really full uncomfortable feeling but right under my rib. Can't feel it when I'm sat but if I stand up and stay still I can feel it. Also when I lie down it's a bit uncomfortable when I'm breathing

What’s your age, BMI or weight? Could it be gallbladder- though typically right side pain, can be left. Is it worse when you breathe in?

macandcheeseballs · 23/06/2023 21:11

@TappingTed I'm 34, 5ft2 and 12 stone. I know I'm really overweight for my height and I need to do something about and am trying but it's a slow process

macandcheeseballs · 23/06/2023 21:12

@TappingTed sorry forgot to answer it's not worse when I breathe in when I'm stood up but if I'm lying flat it's a bit more uncomfortable to take a deep breath

It also only suddenly came on at about 10am this morning whilst I was sat down at work so it hadn't come after exercise or anything

My go to is always: does it feel better after a glass of wine? If it does then it’s muscular (alcohol being a muscle relaxant).

stayathomegardener · 24/06/2023 19:38

How's it feeling now @macandcheeseballs ?

macandcheeseballs · 25/06/2023 10:22

@stayathomegardener it's still the same. Still constantly there pretty much but also now hurts when I'm breathing as well (although not with every breath). Thought I'd leave it a couple of days to see if it was just that I'd pulled something but it doesn't seem to be that.

This really does sound like gallbladder. Mine was like this. It hurt to breathe.

Theunamedcat · 25/06/2023 12:50

Gas pain? Take buscapan?

I thought gall bladder pain would be on the right.

If you’ve pulled a muscle @macandcheeseballs it may take a few days to resolve.
It could be heartburn.

macandcheeseballs · 25/06/2023 16:30

I don't think it's gas or indigestion. I do take omeprazole daily because of indigestion and acid reflux and it doesn't feel like that type of pain. Also I don't think it can be gallbladder as it's on my left not my right

HoistWithHisOwnPetard · 26/06/2023 08:38

I had to stop Lansoprazole as it gives me a really bad stitch type pain in the left rib area, maybe its your Omeprazole? I think its in the region of the splenic flexure, I do have IBS too

stayathomegardener · 04/07/2023 22:31

Just checking you know Omeprazole can make reflux worse plus it stops you absorbing nutrients.

Not something to be on long term.
