Are elasticated sleeves tighter then they used to be, or have I just got fat arms??

I am a healthy size 12. I have several tops and dresses with elasticated 3/4 length sleeves and oh boy are they uncomfortable!! I have actually resorted to snipping a couple of them (and now they look stupid!)
I never used to have this problem! Are manufacturers being stingy with the elastic these days, or have I just got fat arms?!

I hate most fitted 3/4 sleeve tops and dresses, but a lot of it is due to my sensory issues.

I’ve always found them annoying, when I was a size 8 or a size 14.

Hazelnuttella · 23/06/2023 11:35

They’re always too tight for me (size 10-12).

It's not you; they feel uncomfortable.

Far too many of the dresses in shops at present seem to have elasticated sleeves or milkmaid sleeves.

I do have fat arms, I just take out the elastic when I can.

I’ve definitely found this more of an issue as I’ve gotten older and heavier but a lot of elastic is not thick enough - thin cheap elastic pinches far worse

I think it’s partly the style. And partly that I’m less tolerant of tight things these days.

They have tightened and wearer beware the hidden zips

I used to be a designer. The QC was crap. We would have decided the length of elastic by measuring it on our arms. So if the elastic fits a 23 year old size 8 then that’s what you get!

It may have changed since then.

Thanks that’s very interesting!! Explains why this didn’t seem to be a problem in my 20s!
