to ask for 50% of nursery fees?

Ex pays enough maintenance to cover the nursery bill on a full time basis, with me putting in 100 quid too. Obviously this leaves me to pay for everything else but as the nursery bill is 1,600, he’s paying a chunk to me already. I earn half his salary but my take home is enough for me to be comfortable. It bothers me that he just pays minimum cms when there is this bill. But also it’s not like he’s paying nothing. He doesn’t see dc ever so I never get a break, though that’s not really relevant to finances I guess. We are not on bad terms but obviously I think he’s an utterly awful person for not seeing dc, I’ve just given up raising anymore. One part of me thinks leave things as they are then another part thinks I should ask. Any thoughts on the fees?

I should have said tax comes off the 1,600 bill, which makes it less!

So he pays 1300k ish a month maintenence by paying nursery bill?

Pkhsvd · 21/06/2023 11:09

So he pays £1200ish per month? How much does your child cost in addition to this? My workings out would be that your child doenst cost you £1200 even with mortgage/rent considered so he’s either paying more than you toward your child or at least equal. With that in mind then I’m not sure why he should pay more.

If he pays CMS already I'm not sure what you're likely to gain. But I don't know what you have to lose either, given that he doesn't see your DC. So why not ask?

so you want him to pay 650 towards the nursery fees plus then the 1200 that he is already giving you? I don’t know what he earns but I can’t imagine it would leave him much to live off himself. Given nursery fees are the largest expense for a child of that age and what he pays covers it leaving your salary to cover everything else it doesn’t sound too bad.
