Can sensory issues get worse as you age?

Wondering this as I honestly feel my sensory issues are becoming more wearing and exhausting. I'm pushing 40 and was diagnosed with ADHD in my early thirties.

I don't know if they're truly getting 'worse' though or just that I had more energy to expend suppressing them when younger?

Sensory issues were definitely there when I was very young and I became aware of them being weird so I tried to squash them down. They were also definitely there through my teen years and twenties to find ways round the worst of things I struggled with, but it all felt easier to manage somehow. I'm just exhausted and fed up now. Every little sensation that pokes a sensory hotspot just tires me more.

Has anyone else had this?

Yes they can get worse with age and menopause . I'm finding that my sensory issues are heightened more so this last 15 months or so. Lots of things that I could suppress before now cause me a lot of discomfort, even down to being too hot in this warm weather and feeling irritated by it. I used to be able to deal with it calmly where as now I feel as though I want to rip my skin off and its causing me anxiety. I get exhausted from it too

Glad I'm not the only one @eggsandbaconeveryday ! Though of course it sucks and I wish it was easier for both of us.

It really does feel like having less reserves in the tank overall to deal with things.

I absolutely think so. I'm ASD and 41. I find after a full day of work I desperately need quiet time alone as I feel I've had all I can take of people, noise and movement. I never used to feel like that, it's only in the past year I've started to feel like this.
