Lipoedema and summer clothing

My arms and legs are fat but horribly shaped due to lipoedema. Legs like columns, arms with bingo wings.

I will never show my legs outside the home (unless on holiday where I bite the bullet and ignore any staring at my legs). Ditto bingo wings on arms.

In winter I wear dark jeans, trousers, joggers. In summer...the same, as I can't find anything that doesn't make me look huuuge (size 18, smallish boobs so dresses don't hang well and I'd be paranoid people could see my legs if the weather was windy).

AIBU to ask other lipoedema sufferers to please help me out.

What are you all wearing in this heat?

Can you wear midi or maxi floaty dresses? With chub rub shorts if that's an issue too.

I don’t have Lipodema but I do have a lot of bad cellulite (genetic for me unfortunately!) on arms and legs so I am certainly not going around wearing short shorts!

I am happiest in floaty maxi/midi dresses or linen shorts and trousers. I actually find things like denim shorts v uncomfortable and I hate the sticky feeling of bare legs you sometimes get in the summer! I’d check out some jumpsuits and dresses in linen or other breathable fabrics, Matalan actually has some nice stuff in at the moment.

I also feel a lot more confident with a bit of self tanner on.

But mostly, wear what makes you feel cool and comfortable! You don’t have to sweat and hide yourself just of cruddy beauty ‘standards’.

I have lipoedema too and wear maxi dresses and skirts, or wide leg trousers in very light fabric (stiffer stuff like linen just hangs rigidly from my widest part).
I don't often personally, but wedge heeled sandals really elongate and 'slim' my legs.

I 100% understand your fears - but
please wear cool and comfortable clothes. We don't owe the world pretty or perfect. I was in a city today and saw every body type imaginable, all dressed for the heat.

Black jeans because I could have written your post 🙄🤣 when I'm not having the period from hell, it's either a maxi dress and cardi or white linen trousers and a short sleeved top. Been pretty much the same for my entire adult life 🙄

I wear wide leg linen trousers or maxi dresses.

Cullotes, maxi skirts

I like lightweight trousers with cuffs so my cankles don’t get exposed inadvertently! I also wear maxi dresses and as I’m short they usually cover all of my legs. Don’t worry too much about what happens if the wind blows but I am mindful when lifting the skirt to go upstairs etc that my legs are visible. But better that than tripping over!

I also wear chunky trainers etc to balance it out a bit. Little flat shoes or converse etc make my legs look even bigger so I wear chunky wedge flip flops or trainers all summer and boots in the winter.

I feel your pain. Summer is wide leg trousers and maxi skirts for me too.

I have lymphodema and someone recommended this site to me earlier. I've not bought anything yet and they are expensive but thought it might be of some use to you.
