West End live - Trafalgar Square at weekend in boiling hot weather

This weekend myself and my 2 kids and my nieces are supposed to be going to West End live in Trafalgar square. We have a 2 hr train journey then we need to queue for 2 hours and then stand in the blazing hot sun between 12 and 5pm. You literally have to stand all day!!!! Supposed to be doing it all again on the Sunday but minus my nieces as they didn't fancy 2 days. My kids are performers so are very excited but I just think in this heat it will be unbearable. Kids are 13 and 14 and nieces are 13 and 15.

The event is free in itself but I will waste £80 worth of train tickets. AIBU to not go if is as hot as this. Weather app is saying 27 degrees and bright sunshine.

Anybody done West End live in blistering heat before??

I wouldn't do it. There is no shade.

HappiDaze · 13/06/2023 17:21

It we'll get cancelled especially as it's free

HappiDaze · 13/06/2023 17:21

It might well get cancelled

bridgetreilly · 13/06/2023 17:21

It sounds horrific. I would not go.

timetochangethename · 13/06/2023 17:26

If you are going on Saturday you really need to get there very early (definitely before 8 but more like 6/7) if you want to be close to the front. Anytime after 10 and I'd say you may not get in before it starts at 12.

Sunday tends to be slightly quieter but I'd still aim to be there by 8.

It is very hot and there's no shade, take a hat, sun cream and sunglasses. We take a small bag each with water and lunch.

It's a really good event but long and tiring.

I'm lucky and had VIP tickets last 2 times so been in the stand with seat but didn't get tickets this year. The queue to get in last year was hours long to get in and that was on a train strike day. It was a brilliant day but at my age I'm past queuing. I've stood before but weathy was rainy which was ok, but that was before it was so popular
You really have to get there early and make sure you have food to get in, because you won't be able to leave to get it.

timetochangethename · 13/06/2023 17:27

I'd be amazed if it was cancelled. We've been in very hot weather before.

ALongHardWinter · 13/06/2023 17:28

I certainly wouldn't do it,but then I'm a total wimp when it comes to hot weather. And I definitely could not stand in the blazing sun for that length of time. I struggle to get my head around people who think it's enjoyable!

bruffin · 13/06/2023 17:31

There is no shade and no where to sit. In the past my company sponsored a deckchair area on the side but I haven't seen anything about those this year

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 13/06/2023 17:33

You couldn't pay me to do that.
Good Luck @jazzyfazzy766 because if you do what YOU want to do, you've got to explain it away.
Family get together/BBQ instead? Y'know, where there's somewhere cool/some shade 🤞

lap90 · 13/06/2023 17:33

I know quite a few people going this year but as much as i love MT, i cba with all the queueing etc so its never appealed to me. I wouldn't go.

It wont be cancelled. I saw the stage going up this morning. People will happily queue to attend for it whether there is sun, rain or snow.

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 13/06/2023 17:34

Also, somewhere to get a cold drink and have a pee.
🤦‍♀️

Iwouldlikesomecake · 13/06/2023 17:36

Last year when it was 40 degrees we went to an air show on an air base and the heat reflecting off the tarmac was insane. They won’t cancel it for 27 degree heat. Take sun cream, loads of water, a picnic, sun hats and umbrellas and you will be fine. We have sat at the back before!

I don’t think ‘a nice family barbecue’ will cut it with theatre mad teens 😄

TrueScrumptious · 13/06/2023 17:36

I came across it last year, at about lunchtime, having no idea it was on. I stopped to listen/watch for a while. I was sideways on with just about a view of the stage. You can hear it from anywhere, though. There’s no shade or seating, though if you’re not fussed about seeing everything, you might be able to find a shady nook/doorway.

highlandspooce · 13/06/2023 17:37

I so t think anyone should do it with young kids but your group are all teens so i probably wouldn't be put off by weather. Personally I wouldn't do it because of the queuing/standing/toileting aspect but you were happy with that so I would say just crack on

highlandspooce · 13/06/2023 17:37

I DONT think

jazzyfazzy766 · 13/06/2023 17:38

I went two yrs ago with my oldest DD and she still says it was the best day of her life and my youngest has been so excited to go this year. I like hot weather and I also really enjoyed WEL and the standing all day was doable but it was 19 degrees and overcast. Standing all day in the blazing sun when there is no shade just doesn't sound fun to me and if all gets too much there is no where really to escape too as the whole of London will be hot!!!

I keep thinking maybe the forecast will change and a low front will come in and the temperature will drop to a pleasant 20 degrees!!!!!!

🤞 but you're going to fry.

bruffin · 13/06/2023 17:50

Actually the toilet aspect has never really been that bad, there is long queues but they seem to go down quite quick and you can see the stage while in the queue

bruffin · 15/06/2023 19:58

Turns out Im going! I have tickets for Saturday!

@jazzyfazzy766 You may have got your wish weather forecast is overcast and 24 degrees

HappiDaze · 15/06/2023 22:58

The weather is looking to be a lot cooler at the weekend

bruffin · 17/06/2023 11:24

The queue is ridiculous, hope you made it OP
