To ask if anyone has had buccal fat removal

Depopdee · 11/06/2023 19:29

And if so whether you’re happy with the result?

I’m approaching 40 and still have hamster cheeks which are now starting to sag into jowls… delightful 😑so seriously considering the procedure but don’t know anyone else who has had it!

High risk, cadaver-like if not careful & permanent?

Depopdee · 11/06/2023 21:22

Bumping to see if anyone can share their experience!

Not personally, but a friend of a friend did and it looks fucking awful. Recovery from the op all fine and easy but honestly, she looked so much better before. Now it seems to have given her deeper eye bags and a tighter mouth. She looks ill. Would a jowl lift or mini face lift not be better that fat removal?

Dramakwene · 11/06/2023 21:37

Removing fat from your face is basically the most ageing thing you can do.

Hoppinggreen · 11/06/2023 21:39

Please don’t, it looks awful.
Of course it’s your choice but all the photos of Celebrities who have had it done that I have seen make them look like skulls

katsusando · 11/06/2023 21:39

Have you actually done any research into this?

While buccal fat removal can make the face look more gaunt/less rounded, it won't stop the jowls.

Removal can also be detrimental, and can potentially accelerate ageing.

megletthesecond · 11/06/2023 21:50

It seems to make everyone look awful. I really wouldn't.

Peverellshire · 11/06/2023 21:53

Does the double chin treatment work?

8misskitty8 · 11/06/2023 21:56

Celebrities can afford the best surgeons. But they still look awful getting that surgery done.

Yes - but none of them had particularly chubby faces to start with!

Fat is youthful and plumps out your face. You lose facial fat as you age, which partly causes skin sagging.

Removing fat deliberately from your face will age you and give you saggier skin.

I wouldn't do it - you could get a mini face lift to fix the jowls (or filler to plump your jaw out) both of which would probs look better than removing the buccal fat.

This is helpful, thank you! Did she have what you would describe as a chubby face before? Or already quite slim?

I think I would be a reasonably good candidate for it as I do have quite a lot of fat in my face for a relatively slim person, but the fat is particularly concentrated between my jawline and cheekbone, so I basically have NO definition in my face. Adding filler to create cheekbones would just add more volume overall which isn’t really what I want. And I don’t think the mini facelift is necessary at the moment but never say never 🤣

It makes everyone look older. Don’t do it.

Depopdee · 11/06/2023 22:15

Perhaps jowls isn’t the right description - it’s not as low as the area around my neck or jawline, but not as high as the nasolabial folds - it’s somewhere between those where there is just some “heaviness”.

I have zero wrinkles so still not sure the mini facelift is the way to go right now.

I would post a pic but I’m not sure I can face the Sunday night AIBU crowd’s critique of my face 😂

I just googled it and most people look like Cruella Deville. There’s one or two pictures that look better in the ‘after’ shots, but not many. And they are profile shots so I imagine that they look equally awful from the front.

I would say she had a very "normal" face before -as in oval shaped, no defined cheekbones but certainly not excessive fat. She wanted the cheekbones look, but unfortunately instead of the slanted cheekbone like say, Cate Blanchett, its looks more like she's sucking her cheeks in...so more of a dip? Tight mouthed. I wouldn't say its provided a lifted look, certainly not to the jowl area. Like others have said, removing the fat from the face is very ageing, so kind of the opposite of what you want if you think your jowls are ageing you.
I'd have a consultation and explain what you want the result to be rather than asking specifically for the fat removal. I think they will advise a jowl lift. Sounds more suitable for the results you want.

NorthWestThree · 11/06/2023 22:20

I had no idea what this was so I googled and omg in literally all the before and after pics I saw they looked better before!

What a weird trend. Don't do it OP!

SisterAgatha · 11/06/2023 22:21

I’ve not but weight loss and age has had the same effect. I’m quite chiselled these days and I’m mildly nervous about exactly how chiselled I’m going to be in another 10 years!

TheMousePipes · 11/06/2023 22:23

I didn’t know what this was, so I asked Dr.Google.
Honestly, how do you imagine this might look in 10 years time? 20? Until you can see how this ages (if I’m honest I think it looks pretty awful straight away, it looks gaunt) then I really wouldn’t offer your face up as a Guinea pig. We lose fat off the face as we age - if you take it out early, what happens next? It might be fine, it might not be…

Depopdee · 11/06/2023 22:24

Each to their own! The celebrity before and afters obviously look ridiculous because they’re already thin faced women and if it’s on the right candidate, you shouldn’t actually be able to tell they’ve had it done. 90% of the “normal” before and afters look vastly improved to me, but I’m interested in how people feel about it years down the line - that’s the bit I’m missing at the moment.

None of the women in my family have “chiselled” sadly. I think the heaviness in the face is equally aging but the grass is always greener etc…

The women in my dads family get more beautiful with age. The women on my mums side stay plump faced. I’ve been moon faced for years so the development of some cheekbones is quite nice at the moment but I think I’ve got 10 years max before I see which parent I take after!

exactly the same for me - unfortunately I’ve started to look in the mirror and see my mother’s face staring back at me…! And given we’ve been estranged for 10 years, it’s not a pleasant experience 🙈

OP posts:
SisterAgatha · 11/06/2023 22:37

If you are under 45 I’d say there is still a lot of time for the cheekbones to develop. Wait a bit to see how these celebs age and then decide?

weirdly alot of it depends on teeth too!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 11/06/2023 22:39

It's not reversible if you don't like how it turns out either
