AIBU to report this (dashcam related)

NeighbourhoodonWatch · 09/06/2023 21:53

Driving home today, sat in traffic, car in front has driver's arm out of the window holding a cigarette.

As the traffic sped up, they took a drag and then threw the butt out of the window.

It's all on my dashcam.

AIBU to report this? (I hate littering) 😦

Get a life

DyslexicPoster · 09/06/2023 22:06

I wouldn't. I got my son to film a 10 mile road rage chase on my mobile. I didn't report that either. I thought they might cause a crash but amazingly they didn't

ejbaxa · 09/06/2023 22:08

Nobody will give a fuck - our society is broken.

I have on my dashcam a wicked bitch driving into my car and then telling the insurers she didn't do it. The police don't care about that. So they won't care about a fag end.

Cas112 · 09/06/2023 22:08

Get a hobby

Dacadactyl · 09/06/2023 22:13

😂this must be a wind up!

Who are you gonna report it to and what do you expect them to do?!

Elevel · 09/06/2023 22:13

🧐

GoodChat · 09/06/2023 22:14

You'd just be wasting your own time- like you were writing this post

Probably the police as littering is a crime.

And I expect the OP would like the person to be told not to do this again and get fined.

But as I said above, police won't care.

RunningFromInsanity · 09/06/2023 22:16

Yes, you can forward it to the enforcement team (probably Environmental Services) at your location Council.
Depending how proactive they are they should issue a fixed penalty notice.

I do it often with my dash cam (but I work for ES so it’s just a case of passing it on to my colleagues)

Hate scummy people who think Earth is their ashtray.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 09/06/2023 22:18

Oh my god, a fag end! Diall 999 immediately OP, they'll lock that criminal up and throw away the key.

Sigmama · 09/06/2023 22:22

Hate fag ends, to me they're symbolic of selfish twats who don't give a fuck about anything but their own needs

laptop3000 · 09/06/2023 22:24

I work for the team who issue littering fines in the council. If a video like this is sent to us and it's shown clearly on the dash cam with the reg plate displayed clearly and you are prepared to give a statement and maybe appear in court then we would fine the person.

gamerchick · 09/06/2023 22:25

Ah man, the mental picture of you playing back a dashcam to check has royally made me laugh. Grin just the ticket before bed. Cheers.

Can I ask what the point of the statement and appearing in court bit is about please? Why do you have to go to all that trouble...is it just cos you don't definitively know who was driving?

“Hate fag ends, to me they're symbolic of selfish twats who don't give a fuck about anything but their own need”. Agree!

As you can see from this thread people don’t care about litter, just as long as it isn’t dog shit eh guys? You’ll happily roll around in litter, just not shit. 🙄

Doubtful you’d appear in court, you would just need to say you would.

While there are drug dealers operating in impunity in broad daylight, I think littering should be at the absolute bottom of the priority pile.

WhiteFire · 09/06/2023 22:30

I wish I'd have had dashcam footage when a car sped past me, and hit the cones that were put there by highways to shut the lane, but despite it really annoying me I wouldn't do anything about a fag end out of a window.

laptop3000 · 09/06/2023 22:32

@Dacadactyl - it's not very often it goes to court, as most people who get the fines just pay them. If they contest them all the way to court then a statement is needed for court purposes to say that you say X person on X day throw litter on X street. Got to state how far away you were from the offence and the weather (just so the judge knows it was a good picture, then the dash cam footage is more evidence.

ichundich · 09/06/2023 22:42

Not sure I'd report it! However it's getting really dry again already and this kind of behaviour causes moor and forest fires.

Coolhwip · 09/06/2023 23:07

YANBU, report it. I thought you were going to report him for smoking, but littering is fair game for reporting.

Birds eat this shit my mistake.

OK, thanks.

But there are murderers around too - so should we ignore all the dealers?
