To think that there's no solution for me (fat legs and the beach)

I am very overweight and am going to Greece next month. I am making a massive effort to lose weight, but let's face it, I've left it too late.
I really envy overweight people who have decent legs! You can conceal a flabby stomach or bum with good 'shaping' swimwear. But you can't cover up fat, toddler-like legs. Of course you can put on a sarong or cover-up while wafting around the pool. But the thought of the dreaded walk between sunlounger and sea/pool is leaving me cold! I'd look ridiculous with one of the skirted swimsuits, and there's no point because the skirt is too short. Swim leggings might make me stand out more than just my actual legs!
Is there a solution I haven't come across?
Thank you.
PS I've always had bad legs, even at my slimmest. The varicose veins and corned beef tinted skin don't help the cellulite either.

Honestly I don’t look twice at peoples legs!

Go with whatever makes you feel comfortable , if that’s a sarong or whatever but I assure you, you’re the only one that’s worried about them.

Don’t let it consume you and ruin your holiday - enjoy x

Talipesmum · 08/06/2023 20:14

Honestly, the best solution is to think about how nice the water feels on your legs, how warm the sun feels on your skin, and just brazen it out. Enjoy living your life, nobody else cares nearly as much as you do, you’re your own worst critic. This earth is for everyone, enjoy it.

JMSA · 08/06/2023 20:15

Thank you. Unfortunately it does trouble me, but you are absolutely right.

I wear swim leggings and they make me feel like I’ve got a yoga body. I love them and don’t feel at all self conscious

No one cares...in the nicest possible way. Slap some fake tan on and enjoy your holiday

Flockameanie · 08/06/2023 20:20

I think the best solution is to love your body and realise no one else gives a crap (and if they do, screw them!)

Have a lovely holiday.

LucyLucyAppleJuice · 08/06/2023 20:22

You could be me! Even at my slimmest, I've always had huge legs with veins and they're either milk bottle white or corned beef pink. I wear black swim leggings and a tankini top now and I feel so much more confident. I think mine were from Yours clothing but Amazon also sell them, you could also check out modest swimwear websites for something suitable.

Beachbodyready · 08/06/2023 20:22

mine are plus size - i can’t remember if they are Yours Clothing or Simply Be. They are a couple of years old and get worn regularly so I definitely recommend them. They still sell them because I recently recommended them to someone else.

ChippyTea16 · 08/06/2023 20:23

I think in situations like this you have to think how much do you notice or remember other people’s legs on the beach? Probably not much so no one else will be scrutinising yours! Bit of fake tan before you go and just try to enjoy yourself and remember you’ll never see those people again!

easier said than done I know, I’ve always had massive wobbly thighs but as I’ve got older I just find it harder and harder to care what people think of me!

Enjoy your holiday!

5128gap · 08/06/2023 20:23

I used to wear a swim dress. The skirt came to mid thigh so longer than the skirted bottoms. It was very flattering. Alternatively, long cycle short type bottoms?
I do agree with others though, there is no way anyone will notice. There is so much variety of body types, it only tends to be the perfect people who get a second glance. Everyone else is just ordinary.

ilovepixie · 08/06/2023 20:56

I have the worst looking legs in the world. I don't care. I just walk to the pool/sea no one looks at you! Just enjoy yourself.

ProudHag · 08/06/2023 20:58

I once had an epiphany while feeling very self-conscious walking past a group of people - so let's say those people glance over at me and think to themselves "look at her fat arse", what harm has it actually done to me? I don't hear them, they move on from thinking about me in a millisecond and I never cross their minds again. Who cares if a stranger has a negative thought about me? Why on earth am I limiting my life based on the thoughts of someone I don't even know? It's genuinely changed my outlook on things and I hope it helps you a little x

Mumoftwoinprimary · 08/06/2023 20:58

Personally I’m too busy worrying about if everyone is looking at me to get time to look at anyone else.

GiraffeDoor · 08/06/2023 20:59

I wear a rash vest and board shorts on the beach these days- it's so easy! No constantly rearranging stray boobs, no hideous razor burn on the bikini line, no sucking your belly in until you pass out. It's a total game changer. (disclaimer - it's obviously no good if you're going for a tan! But luckily I'm old enough these days that I'll do anything at all to avoid as much UV as possible)

ThePoshUns · 08/06/2023 21:01

Try not to care! You don't know anyone there so who cares what anyone of them think? And most likely they won't think anything.
Maybe get a spray tan before you go? Give you a little boost.
Don't waste time caring what anyone else thinks of you. Life's too short. Have a great holiday.

NeighbourhoodonWatch · 08/06/2023 21:02

Definitely get fake tan.

I do this before every holiday as I am naturally very pale - by the time it fades I am feeling more confident.

I must be the only person who gets whiter as the holiday progresses 😂

TinaYouFatLard · 08/06/2023 21:04

I have truly awful legs and fake tan does make a difference.

clementinejuiceforxmas · 08/06/2023 21:05

Wear a really loud swimsuit and people will be distracted by that.

Don't try to cover them up that will draw attention

Nobody cares about / notices anyone else's legs.

When you get to the beach you'll remember that most people have imperfect bodies

cocksstrideintheevening · 08/06/2023 21:05

I've reached the point now where I don't give a fuck. Really no one else cares.

JaceLancs · 08/06/2023 21:06

I love swimming and sunbathing but I’m currently about 5 stone overweight and am 59
I think about how I will never see any of these people again - they won’t care or even notice what I look like
then I bask in the sun n waddle to the pool but no longer care

Ilikewinter · 08/06/2023 21:06

I understand where youre coming from OP. Im gradually covering up more the older and chubbier I get. I am conscious of what other people think, I admire people that don't give a hoot and are body confident. I really hope you enjoy your holidays and find that body confidence.

This is so wise - I'm going to adopt it in my life x

Natty13 · 08/06/2023 21:08

You don't look at people bigger than you and think nasty things about their bodies when they are on show over summer months so why would someone care about yours?

Unlike others I DO look at people's legs, bums and tums and it's because I think "bloody good for you!" I want to think "good for me!" too when I occasionally feel bad about my body and I believe that starts with seeing the best in others.
