How much do you think it is worth spending on an iron

Ours has packed up. I know from past experience the cheaper ones tend to be on the light side for doing a good job. But is it honestly worth spending over £100 on an iron? Any recommendations?

My experience has been that it makes no difference how much I spend on an iron, it still packs up after 2-3 years.

The last one I bought was a John Lewis own brand one, was about £15 and has been as good as any other I've had.

I bought a £360 iron for £80 from Amazon Warehouse - it was a customer return. Still the same warranty as a new iron.

Amazon.co.uk : iron

I spent more than I wanted to on a steam generator one, it is pretty amazing and I'd probably get another if this one packed in.

I'm a fan of steam generator irons. They make short work of a large pile of clothes. My last endured 11 years of servitude before it packed up and I've just replaced it with another. So, if you are prepared to spend a little more I'd recommend that.

the cheapest one from argos would be my limit as it doesnt get used much

We've had our Tefal steam generator iron 12 years or so and it's brilliant. Wouldn't go back to a normal iron now.

Usually spend around £30, £40 max. I've ironed once this year and that wasnt even clothes, some new curtains that were creased from the packaging.

Crikeyalmightey · 05/06/2023 17:10

I'd recommend a Tefal ultra glide. Don't think it was expensive.

Papergirl1968 · 05/06/2023 17:11

£0 because I never iron!

GoodVibesHere · 05/06/2023 17:12

Up to maximum £60 I reckon

uncomfortablydumb53 · 05/06/2023 17:16

Depends how much you use it I guess but personally I don't have one
With other electrics I always go for mid range

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 05/06/2023 18:10

I have a steam iron which isn't cheap but I iron a lot!
