To think this is a form of contagious social madness spreading from the USA?

You would think this is a spoof, but it really isn’t. Everyone should see this documentary by Matt Walsh which is free to watch this weekend.

AIBU to think our western society has become vulnerable to a form of social contagious madness supported by academia and corrupt medical and pharmaceutical practices, and that the extremes we see in the USA and Canada are lapping at our own shores?

This is not a thread that should be moved to a niche corner. This harmful ideation of individual arbitrary identities trumping reality and all it’s very adverse effects which is being exposed in this documentary very much involves children too and as such belongs on a popular mumsnet board.

YANBU

ScrollingLeaves · 04/06/2023 11:21

It is a particular shock to hear those doctors and that academic in influential, respected positions spreading a miasma of lies with calm, reasonable, and apparently professional demeanours.

I am not sure how much longer this will be free for, does anyone know?

I think maybe until this evening.

It really annoys me when people deliberately conceal what they are talking about in their title.

SiobhanSharpe · 04/06/2023 11:26

Well, I thought it was fairly clear what it was going to be about, having seen what seems to be similar social contagion, especially affecting girls, in schools here.

It's extremely common on AIBU though, isn't it?

Sorry but this^^! I still don't know what this thread is about and I'm not clicking on the twatter links

TheYearOfSmallThings · 04/06/2023 11:29

Just say it then: call it "This is another trans thread, but I am putting it in AIBU so more people will see it and not putting trans in the title because I know a lot of people will avoid it if they see trans. Again."

FOJN · 04/06/2023 11:29

YANBU but I suspect you will get push back from people who will refuse to watch it because of Matt Walsh which is a shame. I think the films greatest strength is that Walsh let's the people he's interviewing speak for themselves; what they say is both funny and terrifying.

There is footage of the "do chickens cry" paediatrician taken before this madness took off (about 2016 I think) and when asked by a parent how they could support a gender questioning child she tells them she can't tell if such a young child is really trans but they should just love and support their child and see if the child still feels the same when they are older. Makes me wonder what happened to make her lose her mind because it sure as hell wasn't robust scientific research.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/06/2023 11:29

Where is the evidence it is coming from the US and "supported by academia" is meaningless. There are plenty of GC academics out there.

Also, the film is anti the transing of children but also a load of misogynist shite that supports the very harmful gender roles that some aspects of the trans craze are obviously the result of and which feminists have been fighting for decades.

Nothing is being concealed. Society, contagion, and a form of madness are key words to describe the issue.

I think people will do what they want to. Many many threads don't say exactly what they are about in the title, but there's a simple way to stop yourself reading the thread if you don't agree with the general theme, and that's clicking the back button and/or hiding it. Like literally every other thread on the site.

Sorry, meant to quote.

SidekickSylvia · 04/06/2023 11:34

We watched this last night, it was shocking. It's easy to think that it's just Crazy Californians, but the ideology is trying it's hardest here too. I wasn't surprised that the whole movement began with the intention of involving very young children into the world of sex with a focus on normalising every possible sexual perversion.

How can anyone not be suspicious of their supporters? The therapist that chillingly described this generation of children as 'lab rats' for their experimental genital surgery was correct.

kitsuneghost · 04/06/2023 11:35

Yeah there is a whole feminism board where we can read as many of these as we like.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/06/2023 11:35

Yes, I'd have liked to see him visit the U.K., there is endless material both for horror and humour here as well.

EggInANest · 04/06/2023 11:35

Please tell me pain my what you are concerned about without me needing to click links and without hyperbole of contagion/ miasma / lapping at our shores.

P.S I am GC, is there anything new I need to know about here?

EggInANest · 04/06/2023 11:36

Plainly, not pain

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/06/2023 11:36

There's a whole dog board but people still post dog threads in AIBU and Chat.

It is dishonest of you to pretend that you didn't deliberately choose not to say clearly what the thread is about.

However a previous poster is correct in that I can hide it now.

Is it about the NatCs are the spread of their hate with the reason conference in London?

ArabeIIaScott · 04/06/2023 11:37

Certainly some of the language and narratives of transgenderism are from a US perspective -which has very different legal, cultural and historical contexts.

John Money and Kinsey were American. WPATH is US based.

2.2 million views of the tweet linked in the OP and counting. Unmissable documentary, whatever you think of Walsh.
