Posting for traffic!

Can I leave uncooked gammon soaking in water to remove the salt out of the fridge overnight? Am cooking it around 12 ish tomorrow?

Or should I take it out of the water, wrap it and put it back in the fridge till the morning?

I wouldn't.. could you put the bowl of water with it in in the fridge?

RollinRollinRollinRawhide · 03/06/2023 23:11

Put it in the fridge.

JustGeorgie · 03/06/2023 23:12

It will be absolutely fine!

Okshacky · 03/06/2023 23:13

Could you not stick a load of ice in the water?

Rosscameasdoody · 03/06/2023 23:13

As long as it’s covered it’ll be fine.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 03/06/2023 23:15

I'd keep it in the water in the fridge.

My dad keeps his soaking in the garage overnight when he doesn't have fridge room.

As long as the meat in water is in the fridge overnight.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/06/2023 23:16

No, in the fridge. To remove the salt you can bring it to the boil tomorrow, throw the water away and then cook your planned recipe.

kangaroopelicanartic · 03/06/2023 23:18

You can.

You shouldn't. It's bad food hygiene. Raw meat (unless otherwise preserved) should be stored in the fridge.

quandry101 · 03/06/2023 23:30

I’ll put it in the fridge!

thank you all

The salt is a preservative, it will be fine for that short amount of time.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 04/06/2023 00:51

It will be fine.
