To think they should make Flucloxacillin taste better for babies

My 10 month old has to take this vile stuff 4 times a day. It's virtually impossible, total blood curdling screaming meltdown, and after a tiny taste I cant say I blame him!
Has anyone had any luck giving it to a baby?!?
Any tips on how to achieve this without being projectile vomited on?

I wish!
I've worked at a company trying to make an antibiotic palatable for children! It's almost impossible 😔

For my two year old we mixed it with strawberry ice cream syrup - only thing we could find to sufficiently disguise the taste. I don't know if that would work for a baby though.

I agree!!! Just had flashbacks from when mine were tinies and I thought exactly the same thing!! I can't remember how old but I recall one of them making such a fuss I had to follow with a spoon of honey afterwards!! Bad mama I know, but he needed the anti biotic! Might have been over one though? I feel for you!!

They seemed to have no trouble in the 70’s - pink or yellow antibiotic medicine. Tasted nice.

Beginningless · 03/06/2023 18:59

Yeah my kids adore the yellow banana flavour one - amoxicillin probably? No issue at all, I’m fact one gets jealous of the other has some! Anyway, this isn’t helping you OP. Have you tried mixing it with anything yet?

red78hot · 03/06/2023 18:59

I tried mixing with a little heinz baby choc pudding, he can still taste it, screamed his head off, took 40 minutes to get it down. Im worried now he will be scared of that, I do have honey but im cautious as he's under 1, I also have some of those sweet freedom syrups.

I rang the gp back when Dd was a toddler and said I can’t get it down her. They prescribed something else which she had happily.

Scrobbler · 03/06/2023 19:04

Bit of golden syrup worked like a charm for us.

Chad23 · 03/06/2023 19:04

The GP prescribed an alternative for my DD as she vomited every time we tried to give it to her

Astromelia · 03/06/2023 19:12

Mix it with ice cream syrup in raspberry or strawberry flavour, or icing sugar. Needs to be real sugar and a very strong flavour.

Its awful isn’t it, at least older kids can be bribed!

IAmTheWalrus85 · 03/06/2023 19:18

I managed it by mixing it up with half of one of those fruit pouches and adding syrup to make it extra sweet. I swear antibiotics tasted nice back in the 90s!

moita · 03/06/2023 19:21

Honestly ring and ask for something else. My DD was traumatised by this stuff. It's vile.

Urgh, it was awful, I can still taste it!

Cookerhood · 03/06/2023 19:28

And it was the 80s when we were trying it! Things haven't moved on since.

Covidwoes · 03/06/2023 19:40

Totally agree OP, it's vile. The smell tips me over the edge, so the taste must be dreadful!

red78hot · 03/06/2023 19:56

Thanks everyone, whizzed down to Sainsburys and got petit filous and strawberry syrup, mixed a bit of both together. Then sat down and acted as if it was mine and of course he wanted some.
