AIBU to tell neighbours not to attach things to my fence?

My neighbours are setting up for a kids party. My fence(Very definitely my fence) is higher than theirs and they seem to be setting up some sort of mini circus tent which they've attached to my fence. Also speakers for their sound system. They have a microphone set up too. It's a pretty new fence but it's less stable than it was due to work they did in their garden which involved them shoving a load of stones and other assorted of crap between the gap in the two fences that's now putting pressure against mine. I'm going to have it stabilised but for now I don't want it to be made any worse.

They moved it when I asked but when I looked it's on my fence again, just further down. They've asked to use my outdoor tap and hosepipe too for a sprinkler toy but I don't feel inclined to let them now. AIBU

AIBU.

Not unreasonable, no.

I'd definitely pop round and ask them not to attach anything to the fence. Just plaster a big smile on your face and say it's not as strong as it looks and would be very expensive to fix for them .

Yanbu and it sounds like your going to have a noisy day

I'm on a water meter so wouldn't be agreeing to the sprinkler. And if I felt they had destabilised my fence I'd be even more reluctant. YANBU

I'll definitely go round again. I'm not sure on which planet "Please remove those from my fence because they'll damage it." means You can keep it on the fence, just move it further down the garden.

Apparently I'm ruining their kids' party. We'll see how long it takes them too attach it again.

Blackbyrd · 03/06/2023 12:03

They sound super entitled and extremely annoying. Trouble is you don't necessarily want them being extra loud or demanding out of spite. Certain types don't need much of an excuse to be vindictive YANBU but may have to make a considered decision

Nothingisblackandwhite · 03/06/2023 12:05

If this was a one of use then I would let them , specially if it’s fir a kids party

Fandabedodgy · 03/06/2023 12:09

It's one day. You are being precious.

Somanysocks · 03/06/2023 12:10

What's wrong with them attaching it to their own fence? They sound like irritating neighbours.

SBHon · 03/06/2023 12:14

Will it really genuinely damage it? I’m inclined to think it will be ok for a one off. You can see it in and make that decision though and none of us can.
