Corfu in October for honeymoon - will it be sunny, or is it a gamble?

We don’t like extreme heat but would like sunshine and poolside weather

YABU = bad time of year to go
YANBU = good destination for October

We went end of august/ beginning of September for 19 nights and had some rain and some cloudy days so I would say gamble

Allfizzandfun · 02/06/2023 15:35

We went October half term last year and it was very mixed. Sea wasn’t as warm, it rained. Plus, everything started closing for the season.

Mainland Greece would be a better option for that time of year.

Potatomashed · 02/06/2023 15:36

It will rain. A lot in my experience

waterlego · 02/06/2023 15:39

I have no experience of Corfu at that time of year but I know it is one of the more northerly islands. One of the islands further south might be a better bet. We went to Santorini in late October a few years ago and it was glorious- warm and sunny but not too hot.

FlappyFish · 02/06/2023 15:41

Too much of a risk. We went mid-September and it was very windy and cooling down. About 22c. Some epic thunderstorms! You may get lucky.

MatildaTheCat · 02/06/2023 15:44

We went in Sept/ October and it was ok weather wise although chilly in the evening but it was as dead as a door nail everywhere. We’d sometimes be almost the only people in the village restaurant. I guess a hotel would be different but it will likely be an older clientele.

AuntieDolly · 02/06/2023 15:46

A lot of the Greek islands finish the season in September

MasterBeth · 02/06/2023 15:47

We had a beautiful sunny week last October in Corfu, but the previous week had been cloudy.

Hoppinggreen · 02/06/2023 15:59

We went in October 2021, it was lovely and warm. Swam in the sea and pool but we are not too precious about water temp.
It did get chilly at night, but still much warmer than here.
Another good thing was we had accidentally picked a resort that had it been peak season I think I would have hated

SamW98 · 02/06/2023 16:04

It’s a huge gamble. The Ionian islands do have a lot of rainfall outside the peak season - hence they’re so green and lush.

The green islands nearer Turkey may be a better option. I’ve been to both Crete and Kos first week of October and had lovely sunny weather. I’m fact last October Kos was 30 degrees all week just cool at night

Anevilintervention · 02/06/2023 16:22

Risky I'd say. Our honeymoon was start of October in a place just over the water from Corfu. First week glorious sunshine, second week pissed it down for a couple of days and quite cloudy. As it's one of the more northern islands the weather is quite mixed at that time.

Campervangirl · 02/06/2023 16:33

Risky, my dsis used to live there.
It'll be closing down in October and the weather will be iffy.
I'd go to Rhodes, it'll still be hot

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 02/06/2023 16:35

I went to a wedding early Oct and it was two days of rain and then two days of hot sunshine

Radiatorvalves · 02/06/2023 16:35

I’ve been there in the rain (albeit May) and it was not quite what I expected.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 02/06/2023 16:36

It’s 50/50 at best, so if the weather is an important factor for you, I’d consider elsewhere. If not and you are happy to
hire a car and explore on cool/wet days then you’ll have a lovely time. Crete might be slightly warmer at that time of year.

Pools will probably be cold.

Fluffyfluffs · 02/06/2023 16:48

Having spent a lot of time there, I wouldn’t go in October. While it’s lovely, maybe warm at times, you’re likely to get a lot of rain and it’s the end of the tourist season so everything will be closing down.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/06/2023 16:51

We had nice weather in Crete in an early October. We didn't have time for pool or beach (too much else to do) but it was still warm enough imo.

Hobbesmanc · 02/06/2023 17:00

The ionians are so lush and green due to rainfall. I'd deffo look at Crete or Rhodes. They have an extended season so should have more going on. We have had a lovely late October break in Morocco?

StarlightLady · 02/06/2023 17:02

Crete is about 400 miles south of Corfu.

For Corfu itself, I would say very much a mixed bag, expect some warm days and some cloudy ones, cool nights and some rain.

But the sea should still be warm from the summer sun and the locals out of peak season will have time for the visitors that remain.

blablablagobshite · 02/06/2023 17:09

Cold I went first week in October it was freezing

Notimeforaname · 02/06/2023 17:10

Agree with all. I usually go end of August to mid September and by then you are getting some rain and thunderstorms. As above, try Crete, Rhodes or Kos.
