WIBU to move babies nursery after 6 months?

Hi, new parent here and trying to organise childcare for when I'm back at work in Feb is already stressing me out!
We found a gorgeous nursery but they only have availability in September, therefore we would need to put our baby somewhere else (still looking) for 6 months and then move him into this lovely nursery. I was wondering if anyone has experience of this? Did your baby cope? He'll be 18months by the time of the move. I'm probably stressing about nothing but hearing other's experience would be helpful. AIBU to move him after just 6 months?

I'm sure it will be fine. Might take a little time to adjust, but that's what I'd do.

rainylake · 31/05/2023 07:45

It will be fine. We had to do exactly the same thing because of a house move. Our Dd was completely fine and it didn’t upset her at all.

Sleepyteach · 31/05/2023 07:48

We were in exactly this situation with DD but just before she was due to start a place came up at the lovely nursery, so maybe ask them to keep you informed if anything comes up sooner, people move all the time!

Op does the nursery she will go to have different rooms, that they move to when they are 2?

I think I'd maybe see if you could make the move then rather than as soon as a space becomes available.

Not an issue, you will however have to pay a deposit and admin fee before you get the deposit back from the first nursery and will lose the admin fee for the first one.

Firstnamesurname31 · 31/05/2023 08:56

No I think this is fine. Starting nursery is a tricky adjustment and different children deal with it differently but lots of people move for all sorts of reasons and yours sounds like a very valid one to change.

I did this with my twins.

The first nursery was actually lovely but it was more than I earned as a teacher. I kept phoning the othet nursery to check availability and thankfully a place came up earlier than expected.

Equalitea · 31/05/2023 10:31

Did it and was totally fine!

Thanks so much all!
We've gone for it and sent our deposit for the setting starting in September and are on the waiting list to start sooner. It is too special and convenient for us to miss out on over just a few months. Now just have to find somewhere good enough for the first 6 months!

I wouldn’t , that’s a huge change for such a young child in a very short space of time and he will have just settled and formed a bind with his key worker only to be moved.

Could you afford a nanny for a few months ? 2 nursery starts in such a short time may be a bit much

*bond

I would see if you can find a nanny or child minder for the intervening period, nanny share perhaps

Even in nursery there are staff changes, people come and go... and kids get used to it. A transition from nanny who would be there for hours every day to nursery would be equally tough if you look at it (never to mention the price, but maybe OP can fork out for that).

Maya12345 · 31/05/2023 18:26

Defo can't afford a nanny unfortunately! Luckily he'll be term time only so there'll be a summer holiday of 6 weeks in between the 2 settings which will hopefully help him settle more quickly.
