To want motherland to continue into the secondary school years?

As a mum of older kids (DC are 15 and 17) I feel like there’s sooooo much material that it could be based off. It would be interesting to see how the dynamics would change and how Julia, Kev, Liz and Amanda would each react to their kids getting older. While there couldn’t be sports day episodes I feel it could MORE than be made up for by Amanda telling everyone Darius is on for grade 9’s in everything, a Facebook party being thrown at Julia’s house while she’s at work, Anne’s general obliviousness, the kids coming more into their own as characters. Aibu to want motherland to continue as the kids become teens?

YA Not BU - that would be fantastic!

The best thing about motherland was that the kids barely featured. It was all about the parents and their dramas, despite them thinking it was the other way around.

For that reason, I’d say it’s best to leave it as is. It’s done: we loved it but it’s a closed chapter.

This should definitely happen! You should put fwd your script, you have some excellent plot lines there 😊

Ukholidaysaregreat · 30/05/2023 20:16

Yes! I agree! Bloody love Motherland!

redheadcurl · 30/05/2023 20:16

Yes yes yes.

I love motherland and want more series!

Its only the characters elder children who are in secondary...they all have younger ones don't they? Julia has James, Anne has Niamh and the twins, Liz and Kevin both have younger ones... Amanda has Georgie.

But anyway, I think motherland has evolved so much that the kids and the school are not the main event

Yep!!

ChessieFL · 30/05/2023 20:20

I’ve only recently discovered this and would love there to be more!

I'd like it but it would be tricky as you don't have the every day drop off/pick up school gate interactions and chit chat. Plus often scenes involved Julia observing (judging) parents at the gate from a distance.

And in secondary you don't have the busy rushing around sorting and organising - Julia would no longer need to be the harrassed disorganised mum.

Say what???? What’s my excuse then?

Equalitea · 30/05/2023 20:24

That would be SO good.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/05/2023 20:27

I didn't even know they're not doing more Shock

Carsarelife · 30/05/2023 20:32

Yes! Defo. I'm imagining it now.

Nor did I, have they actually said there'll be no more?

passmethemalbec · 30/05/2023 20:36

Yes!! It's the best tv shower EVER!

AnOKYearForTheRoses · 30/05/2023 20:37

I’d love more Motherland but I don’t want it to be about the kids.

Imagine Kevin being on permanent taxi duty for his kids, Julia forgetting it’s D of E expedition time, Amanda getting hers ready for prom, Meg getting her kids in at Netflix for work experience and Liz sending hers to the local tip or somewhere similarly unglamorous. I hope they do more.

"Liz sending hers to the local tip" 😂

Yes I’d love to see them at Boundary Road!

Was always a bit confused at the ages of the children. It seemed that Liz’s oldest was maybe the age of Julia and Amanda’s youngest children, but then she was at the same secondary open days so I’m not sure.

I want to see Julia get called into school re: bullying. And she thinks her kids have been the victims so she goes in big saying that the bullies need to be come down on hard. Talks about expulsions and such.

Then the deputy head cuts across her and says “actually, it’s your child that has been doing the bullying”

Cue Julia’s scrunchy face.

“Right. Riiiiight. Well. I think this time, we should just let them off with a warning, don’t you?”

But they don’t. And the kid is sent home for a week. “Shit shit shit”

Wishawisha · 30/05/2023 21:15

I’d like to see the boring and relatable bits that made the primary bits so funny - trying to get into breakfast club, booking the rubbish entertainer for the birthday party etc.

So maybe the secondary equivalents would be Amanda getting upset that Manus isn’t all in top sets and trying to argue it out with the head of year, Julia forgetting to buy in ingredients for food tech and sending in whatever she has in the fridge, Kevin being overprotective and interfering - trying to get detentions cancelled.
