To wonder what on earth chomped my leg?

For the last few days my thigh has been insanely itchy, and a large area of bruising appeared. I do bruise easily but I’m 100% sure I haven’t done anything to injure myself. I’ve just noticed these two red dots, and I’m wondering if I could have been bitten? And what on earth by? Any ideas?

Possibly spider bite? I have had several similar and that is what was diagnosed (all while travelling).

SunbathingDragon · 27/05/2023 13:53

The bruise looks older than the bite.

SunbathingDragon · 27/05/2023 13:53

^or scratch. Hard to tell what made the red marks.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 27/05/2023 13:54

Ooh - no idea but they look like holes and are quite big! Something with fangs?? Sorry, no help but gosh, that's a fabulous bruise. Is it possible the two red marks were caused by you scratching?

DRS1970 · 27/05/2023 13:54

I had similar occur on my arm after gardening. Had to see the GP in the end as it was painful and wouldn't heal. Turned out it was probably a spider bite, from a false widow I believe she said. It healed eventually, but took a long time.

Alanisadick · 27/05/2023 13:57

I don’t think I caused the red marks by scratching, I’ve been scratching the whole area but there are just those two distinct marks close together. I did have a spider bite years ago and I remember it caused a lot of pain and bruising so I wondered about that (I knew for sure that was a spider because I saw it!).

The bruising does look old, I agree, but it’s not, weirdly as soon as it appeared it was yellowish like bruises normally go as they’re fading.

It’s a strong look now it’s finally warm enough to get my legs out!

Can you send a pic to your GP? or go to a chemist ?

Wilkolampshade · 27/05/2023 15:47

Spidery bastard bite I'd say. Ouch, you poor thing.
I had one on boob once - (got caught in bra) Grim.

Bird eating tarantula by the looks of it, have you searched and fumigated your house?

Alanisadick · 28/05/2023 01:52

I regularly do a sweep of my house for wildlife thanks to the bastard cats who like to bring anything with a face in (though often the face doesn’t last long). Haven’t found any tarantulas yet but that doesn’t mean they’re not there 🤣. Thinking about the way I sleep, I usually have that part of my thigh out of the duvet, lying on my left side, with the duvet tucked between my legs. So that very bit of thigh and my head are the only exposed bits of skin, I reckon it got me in my sleep.

Will send a photo to the GP on Tuesday if no better. The bruising seems to be getting worse and worse every day. It’s not massively painful, more itchy and annoying.
