AIBU to think 4 stomach bugs in 3 months is excessive

Im currently on my forth episode of severe vomiting in the last three months …symptoms just like a normal stomach bug (horrible…but only lasts 1 day), can’t even keep water down etc. i have two young kids but only once have they also been ill…the other times it’s just me? Trying to get appointment with doctor but just wondering if anyone else has had this…it seems excessive even with young kids and no sleep

I remember this when my kids were little, had about 4 tummy bugs in quick succession. Young kids are germ factories + stress and lack of sleep weakens the immune system. Started taking strong probiotics and they really helped. Still get about 2-3 a year.

Hope you feel better soon.

That's quite a lot in 4 months!
Young kids do tend to spread germs about like wildfire and sneeze into our eyes 🤣

Have you taken a worming treatment? I think I would. Or do you have any signs of worms? My kids gave them to me quite regularly! And made me really sick 🤢

It could just be that your run down and you immunity is low too.

Sorry to hear that, that's awful

worth a call to the doc I'd say

could be something like Helicobacter pylori, need some antibiotics then you'll be sorted

We went through a phase like this with DS and the doctor wanted a stool sample to analyse whether he had picked up a bacterial infection. He hadn't, as it turned out, but they wanted to rule it out as some bacterial infections are notifiable.

I managed to get hand foot and mouth but my toddler didn’t 🤷‍♀️🙈

Makkapakkasstones · 26/05/2023 10:54

Are you sure it's not a reaction to something you're eating or drinking? It could also just be how you react to viruses?

My youngest DS is more prone to being sick when he gets a temperature, start of a cold etc. Everyone else gets the cold but not the vomiting.

I had this...went back to work in November after mat leave and promptly came down with a succession of stomach bugs one after the other. Tell you what, it was a bloody effective way of shifting the last of my baby weight! It did taper off but it was nightmarish for a while. I think I had them roughly every 2 weeks until January. Mostly been fine since then.

Myusername4321 · 26/05/2023 11:18

I had this after the whole house had a sickness bug but then I kept getting poorly and no one else did! First few times sickness, achy limbs and extreme tiredness then turned into very bad diarrhea. It happend about 4x in about 5 months. I went to the doctor and was referred to a specialist. I was diagnosed with post infectious IBS. It did happen again but less severe and not long after it did settle just fine.

Having said that I work in a college and there is a few lovely sickness bugs going around ATM.

This happened to me once, my kids weren't small at the time and it wasn't through them I was getting it. I felt it was the same bug just reoccurring, lying dormant and then coming back. I actually stopped drinking the water at work because I began to notice a pattern and the bug did disappear, maybe see if there is a pattern with anything you are eating or drinking that might be causing it. I work in a different area to where I live and the water at work although filtered just did not agree with me. After months of being ok I did try the work water again to test my theory and I was sick the following day

Thanks everyone, we’re currently on the first day of a holiday so can’t see my GP but going to see them when I get back / or go to a local walk in centre if no better tomorrow. 12 hours later now and it’s calming down, it’s been violent sick every ten mins till then! I also wondered if it could be a food allergy / intolerance as I quit diary 18 months ago due to my youngest having an allergy / breastfeeding and I do wonder is this me accidentally eating some (buffet last night). Also had very weird bug the last two times with sulfur burps which was just bizarre so god knows what’s going on!
