Air Up bottles - Am I out of touch?

Please tell me if this is me.. apparently these are the new ‘in thing’ DS has asked for one of these… had a quick search and from what I’ve seen they range from £35-55! Is this absolutely ludicrous for a kids water bottle!? I’m thinking along the lines of lost, broken etc.

Yes I got persuaded to get one for my sons birthday!! He loves it, I think it’s a bit of a waste of money but at least he is using it (til it invariably breaks!)
I’ve got a link for 20% off to share x

Get 20% off at air up

I recently used air up and they gave me a special offer to share with my friends. I’m treating you to an exclusive 20% off your first order. I’ll also get a reward, so it’s a win-win!

Waste of money. They were the rage about 6 months ago but my dc said most kids have gone back to normal bottle as their parents won't buy the refills.

Boysnme · 24/05/2023 22:34

Overhyped crap for me but my son loves it and does drink more. It was the only thing he wanted for his birthday so got him one. There was a thread on here for a 20% off code that I used and then reposted my code for someone else to use.

hes not been brave enough to take it out the house yet though as he knows he’ll loose or break it!

LemonjeIIo · 24/05/2023 22:44

Why is everyone obsessed with drinking water?

They were a huge fad at my dc’s school over Christmas. Mine got them for Christmas. Both broken ( dropped into concrete). The fad has passed as I imagine the parents are now refusing to buy the pods and everyone is back to normal water bottles.

Exactly the same happened at daughters school too. A total waste of money!!

Piony · 24/05/2023 22:47

My 16 year old calls them gateway vapes.

TeenLifeMum · 24/05/2023 22:47

I’ve ordered one. I drink far too much Pepsi max and can’t get myself to drink water so I’m hoping it’ll help. I needed a water bottle anyway.

Chickychoccyegg · 24/05/2023 22:54

My dd bought herself one with money that was gifted to her, I thought it was a waste of money, but so far she's drank a lot more water, it seems sturdy (no damage after several drops/falls) , there's 20% discount codes online for your first order.
It isn't too expensive for replacement parts once you have the bottle (especially if you have various email addresses to get 20% off)
Most of the dc seem to have them, everyone in dds dance/sports classes have them, I dont consider it a theft risk, it is after all just a water bottle
There are cheaper alternatives available now, ive seen a few dc with them.

My daughter was desperate for one. It is now a sink ornament as she can't be bothered to clean it and I refuse to. Can't go in the dishwasher and you need pipe cleaners or something to clean out the tube.

I think she used it for a month or so and the are out of fashion now with year 8 at least.

Andanotherone01 · 24/05/2023 22:56

My DDs have them but I think they are completely overpriced. They also leak if you don’t put them together properly.

crabbyoldappletree · 24/05/2023 22:57

Never heard of them until now. So thought I'd look at the ingredients, bit cagey aren't they? I mean what exactly is a 'natural' aroma? essential oils are natural, but you wouldn't want to be sniffing them undiluted for any length of time. Okay it's smell related, but smells aren't always very good for your health. Not sure I'd be happy giving it to my DC without a bit more info? I suppose because it's not ingested it doesn't have to list the ingredients, or have any certification from the food standards agency, I'm assuming there wouldn't be essence of peanut or anything that could cause an allergy?

FreeButtonBee · 24/05/2023 22:58

Don’t take them on an aeroplane- they leak WVERYWHERE - no good with pressure at all. I almost threw my daughters in the bin. We use them without the pods and it’s fine but frankly expensive and doesn’t keep the water cool in the summer. I prefer swell or moon insulated bottles.

angelikacpickles · 24/05/2023 23:01

My DD has one. Works fine, hasn't leaked or broken. She's had it about two months and is only on her third pod - some flavours seem to last longer than others.

Gingerlygreen · 24/05/2023 23:01

My dds are desperate for one but after reading lots of reviews on Facebook it seems they leak and a lot of people say it tastes of water.

Mine don't like water so I reckon they'd be sitting in the cupboard after a few days

Shookethtothecore · 24/05/2023 23:01

Do they actually work? I’m thinking for me because o really need to drink more water I just find it really boring

Hankunamatata · 24/05/2023 23:04

Two of mine brought them with their own money. They like them and they are drinking more water. Tbh they don't do it for me, tried the kids different pods and was like nope

Hankunamatata · 24/05/2023 23:05

You just have to remember not to tip them up when drinking too as you have use them like a glass with a straw and make sure you screw lid on tightly

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 24/05/2023 23:10

My 16 year old calls them gateway vapes.

@Piony

Your 16 year old is extremely wise! I'd never heard of these before but when I did a search and it was showing me all the flavours the first thing I thought of was vapes!!

SirenSays · 24/05/2023 23:51

We didn't like them. They just taste of water. They remind me of those fruity teas that smell so good but taste like a single strawberry coughed near them.

getafringenotbotox · 25/05/2023 09:49

My daughter has one. We went halves with her as she saved her pocket money for a few weeks.

She uses it everyday and yes they are expensive and the pods are not cheap but she gets the use out of it.

Lcb123 · 25/05/2023 09:52

I’ve only heard an advert on a podcast but it’s the most ridiculous concept. Just drink water. Lots of people in the world would love to be able to drink safe tap water

AmberGer · 25/05/2023 09:57

I was opposed to DS buying one.
He's had it for about 8 months now.
I've changed my opinion.
It's very well made.
Never been lost or stolen. (Does have a name sticker on bottom just incase).
Bought an extra pack of pods alongside the bundle with the bottle and haven't had to buy anymore and still have some left.
I think they're great. DS drinks tons more water now.

CombatBarbie · 25/05/2023 09:57

Kids got them for Xmas and are used daily.....
