If I get a cold or bug or something I always feel bad like it’s my fault I got it and I think work will be annoyed with me etc… does anyone else feel like this or is it just me?!

Yes I feel like this.

roseopose · 25/05/2023 09:41

Yes I often do. I think it's because I used to use feeling ill to skive off school a lot as a kid so now I struggle to feel like I'm in the right being genuinely too ill to go in to work!

Freshfoods · 25/05/2023 09:41

Yes I always feel that it's my fault.

bushtailadventures · 25/05/2023 10:41

Yep, I've been off work for 2 days because of Covid, but I feel so guilty I'm going in today and offered to work tomorrow even though it's normally my day off. I always feel guilty about being off ill, same as when the dc were little and I was ill, like I'm letting everyone down even though I can't help it.

Florissante · 25/05/2023 11:08

Yes. I feel that I have somehow failed when I am ill.

CadburyDream · 25/05/2023 11:20

No and I’m surprised to see so many feel this way

Phos · 25/05/2023 11:25

I feel the same. I feel bad when I can't look after my daughter as well as I can when I'm well and I feel guilty if I take time off work (probably why I'm sitting at my desk now after having a horrendous night with a stomach bug)

PuffinsRocks · 25/05/2023 11:26

Yes I'm off with Covid right now and I feel like this! Thought it was just me. I think it's because my mum never believed me when I was ill as a child and always made out I was making it up for attention (I would do anything to avoid attention as a child but ok) and then in early adulthood it got compounded by having a couple of the types of jobs where you're "allowed" to be ill 2x a year and get disciplinaries for being ill and having a chronic illness so it being impossible to stay on the right side of the absence policy and now I have massive anxiety about it.

thecatneuterer · 25/05/2023 11:32

No. I very willingly embrace the sick role (medical sociology term describing how sick people feel absolved from their normal responsibilities).

tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee · 25/05/2023 11:55

No never. I can't understand why you would
