I am going away tomorrow evening with the kids for a long weekend.

I am very overwhelmed and have not been sleeping well and waking up early.

The kitchen is a tip. I need to clean it.
I have 4 x 10,000 word documents I need to read and comment on by the 3nd of tomorrow as well as 2 x 1 to 1 meetings with people I line manage and another piece of work has come in.

I need to pack for the long weekend also.

How the feck am I going to get it all done? Strategies please.

Personally, i would do the meetings tomorrow but wangle an extension on the other things, focus on cleaning the kitchen tonight and factor in an early finish to pack tomorrow

You have staff so can you delegate reading the documents to them ( assuming they have capacity). Or tell your manager you can’t get it all done and what does s/he want you to prioritize.

Randobelia · 24/05/2023 17:51

I would do the kitchen first

  • dishwasher
  • clear counters
-ignore everything else

Then pack. Do 1 of the documents tonight and the others tomorrow, or can you push back and either delegate them or do them next week? What happens if they're not done by tomorrow?

  1. Pack, you 'll fell better for it, make a list and give yourself a limited time to do it. ( an hour, two hours, whatever you think but then stop)
  2. Same with the kitchen, give yourself an hour to get it straight, once that time is over that's it. Also, could you get a ( paid) friend to do your kitchen?
  3. Make yourself a coffee. Start with your words documents, aim to do two tonight and two tomorrow early morning.

Make sure you delegate, can children hoover, put a load on washing machine, clean bathrooms, tidy rooms? I bribe mine with money, seems to work

I wouldn't worry about the kitchen, just make sure any food is put away and any dirty dishes and pans are washed and left to drip dry. Only a burglar is going to see it between now and when you come back and they can just deal with it.

Can you move one of the meetings to Monday?

IAteAllTheTomatoes · 24/05/2023 19:04

I would prioritise in terms of essential v desirable.

1 - Pack now, doesn't need as much brain power as the rest and has to be done anyway. Also, if theressential anything you can't find, you have time to look.

2 - Tomorrow morning - all documents by lunch, 1:1 in the afternoon

3 - Tomorrow night - kitchen, food ,anything ghat attacys much etc done first. Leave anything no mn essential if you don't have time.

Mumsnet has literally saved me tonight thank you. As @BarleySugars suggested I have unfucked the kitchen and fed the kids some airfrier waffles. Am now sat down with a tea and a am about to write a packing list. Once packed (packing light) I will try to read 1 and hopefully 2 of the documents. I will negotiate am extension tomorrow if needed.

Thanks mumsnet. I literally couldn't think of the steps as I was so tired.
