Public Liability insurance for a home made wedding cake??

A friend asked me to make her wedding cake, which I have done for others before, but when I called the venue to ask about delivery arrangements they said I would need public liability insurance. I assume this is related to Natasha's Law but it's tricky. I don't have a business - can I get PLI without one? Anyone have experience of this?

Oh no, that’s annoying. Venues are increasingly asking for it, though as a professional wedding cake maker I only get asked about 1 in 10 times so that’s annoying you’ve got one of them! They often require up to 5m cover too. I don’t know about getting it as an individual, I’m with direct line and the coverage would be expensive if it’s just for a one off! I’d give them a call and ask what you should do. It’s going to increasingly become a problem for people asking hobby bakers to make their wedding cakes as venues are definitely becoming stricter. Good luck! Hope the cake planning is going well :)

It’s been almost a year. Hopefully OP wasn’t left with stale cake.

That's such a thoughtful gesture to make your friend's wedding cake! Public liability insurance is indeed essential, especially when dealing with events like weddings. Even though you don't have a business, you can still obtain public liability insurance for this specific occasion.
Additionally, exploring wedding insurance comparison options can help you find the right coverage at an affordable price. Websites like Insurance Cloud provide valuable resources and information to assist you in making informed decisions about your insurance needs.
By taking the time to research and compare options, you can ensure that you have the necessary coverage in place to protect yourself and your friend's special day.
