I posted a thread on here before Covid about the excessive noise at the church directly opposite my house.

There were varied opinions but I had quite a lot of sympathy as it was a 7th Day Adventist service on a Saturday with amplified preaching, a full day of services and about 80-100 people hanging around in the street from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm every Saturday of the year. The preaching was loud enough to be heard inside my house even with the windows shut - yet alone the music.

Just to update - we had a Council meeting and it was attended by the Methodist Church (who were renting the Church to the 7DA on Saturdays) and the Council but not the 7DA.

We agreed a way forward and they put signs up about being respectful to neighbours etc but nothing really changed.

We were just getting ready to engage the Council again when Covid hit and the Church was closed.

When it re-opened last year things went from bad to worse and we were faced with all the same issues again.

I emailed the Council and found an email address for the Church Secretary and emailed the Council for advice and copied in the Church Secretary. (I also copied in the main Methodist Minister for the area - who had been at the initial meeting)

Was expecting a long road of noise diaries etc and probably no response from the Council but I got a response from both - the most surprising one was from the Church Secretary - who said that she had had no idea that there were ongoing complaints still and that nobody had told her.

It seems that we were talking to the person who opened the Church doors etc and to the people at the 7DA but nobody was actually passing this on!

Long story short - the 7DA Lease has ended and the Methodist Church is not renewing it.

They are having a coffee and cake morning for the "neighbours" - there's only 3 of us - to formally apologise for the last 11 years!

I often see my thread mentioned so wanted to update - and also to give some encouragement to anybody going through the same thing.

I remember you, good news

Zarataralara · 22/05/2023 13:44

I hope it’s excellent coffee and cake to compensate for 11 years of noise.

piedbeauty · 22/05/2023 13:44

I remember you! Great news, but wtf has it taken so long to be resolved?!

Swimbikerun · 22/05/2023 13:44

I remember too! Can’t believe it was that long ago.

I hope the cake is excellent!

QuickDuck · 22/05/2023 13:45

That must be such a relief for you. So awful you had to suffer on so long. Pity the poor neighbours of wherever they end up!
Glad you have finally got an end to it and can enjoy your home once again.

ohsuzannah · 22/05/2023 13:45

So glad to hear that! Smile

powershowerforanhour · 22/05/2023 13:45

Brilliant outcome, always wondered what happened to you. Thank you for coming back to update.

LookItsMeAgain · 22/05/2023 13:54

I remember your ongoing plight - I can't believe that throughout this whole situation no one, not a single person passed your queries/issues along. That is shocking.

I'd say you want to go over to the church and start ringing the bells in glee that there is finally light at the end of the tunnel!

Fair dues to you for staying throughout and for coming back on a regular basis and giving us strangers an update on your situation.

You must be totally delighted!!!!

DorotheaFrazil · 22/05/2023 13:54

Well done!!

verdantverdure · 22/05/2023 13:57

Excellent news!

strawberriesandkreme · 22/05/2023 14:03

Fantastic news for you!

spaceychimp80 · 22/05/2023 14:05

Remember your thread and am pleased for you and your neighbours. It sounded like hell to me. Can't believe you've had to endure it for so long. Those sort of churches should not be in residential areas.

Stompythedinosaur · 22/05/2023 14:07

That's a lovely update!

Lougle · 22/05/2023 14:07

I remember! There were also lots of cars, etc., weren't there? Brilliant news.

RedDoughnut · 22/05/2023 14:08

I remember your thread too. Fantastic news, please update this thread agin after the coffee and cake.

AnxiousShep · 22/05/2023 14:12

I remember you. Brilliant news. Enjoy your peaceful Saturdays.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 22/05/2023 14:13

I remember your threads and feeling righteous indignation on your behalf. I am so pleased that you have a resolution. I have no problem with noisy church worship - I've been to a few loud services myself - but it seems that they were missing the bit that says "love your neighbour!"

FrostyFifi · 22/05/2023 14:14

That's brilliant! I do remember your thread, I'm really pleased you've had a good outcome.

Handsnotwands · 22/05/2023 14:15

i am pleased for you, but also disappointed that you're not the Sistine😱 Screamer

BettySundaes · 22/05/2023 14:16

I didn't see the original thread, but used to live next to a hall that was rented out on Sundays to similar style praise rousing style preaching so totally get your pain. I hope you live in peace now.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/05/2023 14:18

the 7DA Lease has ended and the Methodist Church is not renewing it

Excellent news, OP; I remember your thread very well and am so pleased for you (just so long as the methodists don't rent it out to another such group!! Shock)

Oh, and with something this contentious it beggars belief that the complaints "hadn't been passed on" - far more likely they're just pretending not to have known, but at least it should be over now
