I've been talking to a man for a couple of days on an online dating site.

The chat's been flowing quite nicely until he wrote "You sound like a bit of a Sigma female. Don't worry though, I can accept that" Apparently, from his chat, he feels he's a bit of hero doing this as most men wouldn't accept a partner with those traits.
There's clearly an element of negging going on so he's going in the bin along with those looking for "a partner in crime" and the guys that want to "mess up my lipstick not my mascara".

However, I'd never heard the term before so I looked it up and it turns out its a woman who's quite independent, who isn't particularly bound by fashion trends or convention and who could take or leave a relationship.
I then fell down a bit of a Greek letter personality rabbit hole and it turns out that sexy, compliant Beta females are very desirable.

Am I being unreasonable to find this all a bit disappointing?

Having read a bit more about sigma females I think its depressing but not surprising what you said about many men preferring the beta/compliant type of woman. Its says it all that he said he can "accept" the fact that you are a well rounded, independent woman rather that be impressed by it.

I agree with @Eleganz my first thought was he’s familiar with all the rabbit holes on the manosphere. Ie. Chads/Stacie, red pill/black pill, incels /femoids.

I could be wrong, but calling you a sigma female (basically an ordinary independent woman) saying ‘he can accept that’, it’s its own massive red flag.

Sigmas sound cool. It's a minefield out there. A friend was once accused of looking for a 'Beta wallet'.

Perhaps they should bring back Greek and Latin.

These types need a label for everything, so it fits neatly into a little box and that's how they can understand others (thus making the world feel safe for them). Breadth and depth of thought and personality is beyond them. The unlimited and chaotic nature of life is threatening. They are also very controlling because of this deep seated fear. Sad really.
