Have you ever been asked questions for a TV quiz show?

Just that, really, I'm watching the 1% Club, and it got me thinking that several quiz programmes claim to have asked members of the public to gauge opinion or answer questions. Yet no one I, my DH or my adult DD know has ever been asked (as far as I know), surely probability dictates that we should at least have heard of someone being approached for family fortunes, pointless etc.

AIBU to ask have any of you been approached or do they make these statistics up?

Yes, twice for the 1% Club and once for Pointless! Both via online survey sites.

RenoDakota · 20/05/2023 22:19

No but would love to be! And often wonder (and talk) about where they find these '100 people' on Pointless, etc.

JustDanceAddict · 20/05/2023 22:21

How do they find the people??

These days online survey sites. In the old days stopping people in the street. My Nan was stopped for family fortune years and years ago.

Yes for 1% club via an online survey.

I've done it twice for House of Games. I follow Richard Osman on Twitter and he'll announce that they're looking for people to help and give an email address to contact. They then send a certain number an online survey to complete.

Beenalongtime · 21/05/2023 00:27

I've done it twice for House of Games too. When the rounds come up on the show I can never remember which questions I answered though!

AuntieEmm · 22/05/2023 06:49

Thanks all,

I'm so glad they do ask real people and the answers are not computer generated or AI.
I'm off to look at online surveys now.

I've always wondered who they ask to get the answers for Pointless, especially when the game suggests that they've found people who can't identify a common animal from a clear picture of it or similar.

notsayingmuch · 22/05/2023 07:22

I once did the Pointless online survey. You only have 100 seconds to answer each question, so by the time you have read the question and started typing you can forget some really basic stuff!

Whatabouteryallaboutery · 22/05/2023 07:23

It's from Crowdology (or it was when I used to do the Pointless questions). The failing to get a common animal or easy fact right comes from running out of time - it's amazing how fast 100 seconds goes!

Related but not quite the same, I've applied a few times to do who wants to be a millionaire and I think the online questions are way harder than on the tv. Then you see people on the show who don't get past the 1000 question and wonder how they got through...?
