to be surprised that I really like Ru Paul's house

I watched the video tour he gives here

I mean it's bold and big and Hollywood but in some way it's surprisingly tasteful. I'm really surprised both that that I like it so much but also that it's not more Trump-esque tacky gold.

I love how much space there is and the light. The bit at the end where he says find the joy and make your home joyful - sure if you have that budget and a lot of land. I don't think modern homes exist like this in the UK - they just aren't built in such a spacious way. It's only old stately homes with a ball room that have high ceilings like that really or converted warehouses.

@HadleyVaughn Wow!!! I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I really love it and would love to live in it for a bit. It's very colourful but I think really shows him as a private individual as much as a public figure. I love the bit where he talks about finding your favourite colour and using it in a room of your house. The orange office shouldn't work but really does and it shows how you can use a bold colour without it being tacky. It's clear that they know and worked with their designer very closely.

I've always thought he was a very handsome man and that wardrobe is just to die for, never mind the drag archive and glam room 😍

Still tacky tho, swapped gold for silver?

HadleyVaughn · 19/05/2023 14:47

@Sagittariusrising I know! That's what I mean I would have thought it would be tacky-mungous but I really liked it and I liked his enthusiasm when talking about his home.

The orange office bit and his comments on how a colour makes you feel really struck me too!

I'm glad it's not just me. I really liked the stripey Elizabeth Taylor terrace.

It does nothing for me I’m afraid.

HadleyVaughn · 19/05/2023 14:49

@Bloopsie I don't think it is tacky overall it's quite stylish I think albeit bold.

It has its moments - the glitter balls for example but it is in a room intended for a disco so just about forgiveable.

You’re right. I also like it. However, it shares a lot of style and furnishing similarity (although much bigger and more lavish) with the house of our friends who also live in Beverly Hills; which is disappointing and suggests this is actually quite a cookie cutter “quirky outlandish LA-LA-Land on trend” style driven by designers - though our friends have had their house styled so for several years so I’ll opt to look upon them as trendsetters!

It's a bit too monochrome for me but in general, agree it's surprisingly tasteful. I love the kitchen chairs.

mathanxiety · 19/05/2023 15:39

I like the landscaping.

The heavy use of black and white indoors is not to my taste at all.

Redlarge · 19/05/2023 15:56

I dont like it but it doesnt offend me. Pool is lovely.
