Need a unique, personalised gift idea for a close friend for her wedding?

Super close friend of mine is getting married. Due to illness, I won't be able to make the wedding but want to give her something v special to make up for this. No idea what though. If all else fails will get them a F&M hamper or something but trying to think outside the box a little...

She (and her fiance) likes: nerdy things like cosplay, D&D, video games, they're also obsessed with their dog, and like skiing/snowboarding.

Any thoughts welcome! TIA.

I wouldn't overdo it. Whatever you give will be one of many gifts. Perhaps take then out for dinner when they are back from honeymoon and give them a nice box of chocolates.

I had a gift for a similar couple at a time funds were a bit tight. As a fellow lover of things nerdy, I did a cross-stitch of the couple in pixel people form.

How about a pair of smart rings

Have you got a decent glass engraver in your area that could do a nice glass bowl with an engraving of their dog (from a photo)? Or some tankards with similar? For a relative a few years ago I did that - but with an engraving of the church where they were married and the date. It was very well-received.

I'm sure they will love whatever you choose for them.

I got a friend a drawing of their venue with the date and time on it which they loved, you could even incorporate the dogs into it if you wanted!

When I was bridesmaid for a friend I got them an Etsy print out of their first dance lyrics - it's still got the tear marks on it as the groom cried when they opened it 😆

We were given a Christmas bauble with an illustration of us and our cat on it - it's small but such a lovely thing to get out each year

If they are into D&D, then how about some really lovely dice? My ds has some amazing ones from Rattlecake and they even do custom dice (depending on budget), and the guys who run it are lovely and could advise on what would wow

Rattlecake Inc.

Forget regular old pretty dice, these will be **your** dice. Like Gollum to the ring, you don't have to share with anyone else in the world. Not even with halflings ;) .

I don’t know whether you’re especially into crafts, but I couldn’t make it to the wedding of some friends and got a picture of the two of them from the wedding and made an embroidered version just using the outlines and a couple of key features - they were both wearing patterned waistcoats so I picked up some colour and detail from there.

It was very minimalist, but also very personal. I had it mounted in a block frame for them and I know they love it because they appreciate that I took time and thought to create something personal. Is there something equivalent you might be able to do, or pay someone else to do if you’re not especially into doing it yourself? Maybe a line portrait taken from a photo of them with their dogs could work?

This is a nice idea. There are loads of similar things on Etsy and Not On The High Street.

Sorry but that's far from 'the cutest wedding gift'

Leicestershiremum · 17/05/2023 20:39

I bought a voucher for friends for a sketch/painting of their wedding venue from not on the High street. The artist added in their wedding car(vw camper) and would have been able to add a pet I'm sure. They redeemed the voucher and communicated with the artist about what they wanted.

I'd get them tickets to the show they'd enjoy or something like that as a joined part of the gift, and then would make something of a sentimental value just for her. Maybe a photo book with all the pictures you have of you both, or a video with pictures and narration (ie you speaking about the friendship and how good of a friend she is, and bringing your congrats on her wedding, etc).
