To think this period is trying my patience

Posted in women's health but it's a bit quiet there and totally fed up!

So I'm 46, periods between 28 and 35 days for a few years, more recently up to 40 days. February cycle 28 days then nothing for 42 then spotting followed by two weeks of light bleeding. Then all hell broke loose and had a week of heavy bleeding. At the end of which I saw my gp. She wants bloods, ultrasound and pelvic exam ( deep joy) so waiting on a load of appointments. She also gave me trans whatsit acid. Took the dose for two days, stopped bleeding. So I stopped it after Sundays full dose. I had one dose last night as a small spot, nothing thereafter so didn't take today. Now I'm fecking bleeding again. So I've taken another dose. What am I supposed to do? Keep taking it? Feels like that's very much treating the symptom not the cause which I firmly believe to be hormonal. I really don't think I've got cancer, possibly got fibroids, who knows, but I don't see why that should suddenly cause a massive problem and a month long period.
She was originally going to prescribe progesterone but the computer was uncooperative. Shall I demand she sorts that? I'm so sick of bleeding. And of course we won't be able to get on with the other invasive and unpleasant stuff whilst I'm bleeding. Just want it sorted. Bloody uterus. It's totally redundant, I've let it alone for 16 years and now it does this!

Sorry you are having to deal with this. I would take more tranexamic acid tonight and then call the gp tomorrow and ask for progesterone - I’ve had really heavy bleeding due to a uterine polyp and progesterone made it calm down.

Tranexamic acid is only for the first few days of heavy bleeding I thought? Wouldn't take it for spotting personally.

Sorry you're going through this. Hope it's sorted soon. Can you not ask for the combined pill or POP?

It's not spotting. It's proper bleeding, the gp gave it to me and said take it till it stops so I did and now it's started again. My normal period would usually have 12-16 hours where it would stop then start not heavy then finish. I'm now wondering if the ta worked at all. Or was it just coincidence.

I get migraines so never had combined pill. It's so bloody annoying. I've been off contraception since I was 30 and dh had the snip. To go back on it because my uterus is attention seeking ticks me right off.
