WIBU to agree to this before confirming with my job?

I am due to start a new job in about four weeks. I suffer from mental health issues (which my new employer knows about as I declared them as a disability) which I am on medication for. I feel I would also benefit from therapy and after being on a waiting list have been offered a counselling slot on Tuesdays at 6pm. However, my new job is full time 10am-6pm. I did have a verbal agreement with my new employer that if hypothetically necessary I could work 9am-5pm to enable me to attend disability-related medical appointments, but at the time this wasn't imminent because I hadn't been offered the therapy slot at that point.

My question is WIBU agree to the therapy slot time before confirming with my new employer that I can slide my shift an hour earlier one day per week to enable me to attend counselling? I'm not starting my new job for another few weeks and this therapist and I may not even be a good match, so I might decide not to go back to see this particular therapist again once I've had the initial appointment. But also I feel stressed at the thought of agreeing to the therapy slot without being 100% sure I'll be able to attend after I start my new job, although I did have the verbal agreement with my manager around flexibility with my hours for appointments.

Is the counselling face to face or on the phone ? If phone then I would just work til six and find somewhere private for the session at work ?

Sorry just saw you mention going to see therapist - I would go ahead as it would be classed as a reasonable adjustment to amend working hours

I don’t think this would be unreasonable. You’ve already made them aware there may be occasion where you need to adjust working hours to attend disability related medical related appointments. This is just that. Let them know now - and don’t ask, simply inform them that you’ve had confirmation now that for x amount of time you will need to attend an appointment once a week at x time, and you would appreciate a discussion to confirm how your hours can be adjusted to accommodate this.
