I get anxious when the teacher talks to me

Is this normal?

I always try to duck out quickly when picking Dd up, obviously I’m friendly and exchange pleasantries, but if the teacher pulls me over to ask me something, my heart starts racing.
Dd, 4, is fantastic, but can have times when she’s a handful..she’s never said this ever at school, i don’t know why I worry so much 🙈
I’m an ex teacher myself, so have no idea why I lose all confidence at the class door

I guess not, don’t know why my anxiety is so high 🙈

Maybe it's because you were a teacher and getting flashbacks?

Your child is 4 not 14, so it's not going to be warnings about vaping :)

I'm sure it will get easier

I'm exactly the same. I get soo anxious. Luckily my husband does all the school runs. I'd love to hear from any teachers that have experienced very shy or anxious parents though!

I'm like this too feel very anxious and tongue tied but I'm like this with Authority figures so for me this is linked to that. Wish I could feel more confident though.

You’re not the one only one. I have some parents who I can clearly see are uncomfortable. I always do my best to make them feel more relaxed.

You say DD is a handful. Is there more to this? Are you just waiting for the other shoes to drop in a way?

Theboringwhattohavefordinnerthing · 09/05/2023 18:51

Sorry others feel the same, but also quite relieved to hear it’s not just me, felt like I needed to get a backbone! Don’t understand why I get so anxious

You need to ask yourself why you feel like this. It's just your daughter's teacher? There's nothing she can tell you about your child surely that you don't already know? Where your child is concerned, you're the expert. Remember that the next time you feel anxious 😀

GoFaster83 · 09/05/2023 20:24

I bet the teacher feels the same when ever the parents want to have a word! It's easy to fear the worst in any context when you're feeling anxious.

SallyWD · 09/05/2023 20:34

No. I never feel anxious and shy with the teachers but I do with some of the parents. A lot of parents I chat to but there are a few I feel really shy around. No idea why as they're perfectly nice people!

It could be a fear of authority? I feel really guilty whenever I see a police officer or car aswell 😂
