Hairdresser, am I a CF??

Honestly I’m not sure if this is the done thing or a really cheeky request, please be honest as this is all knew to me and I absolutely do not want to cause any offence

would a hairdresser be able to fit extensions that are not theirs? ie, would it be cheeky to ask for an appointment to style my hair for an event and to bring my own synthetic hair extensions (5 piece) for them to insert and style? I wasn’t sure if they would be happy to put in extensions that are not their own and I didn’t want to be CF but I’ve got some really nice extensions that are nice when in but I’m hopeless at doing it, and I have a wedding to go to and my hair is destroyed after years of steroid treatment for psoriasis so I just want to have nice hair for once x

I get a cut and colour from one stylist who has their own home salon and get blowdries/treatments from a salon near work on my lunchbreak if I have something on. Neither would do what you ask to be honest but would not take offence for you asking.

You can ask. So long as you could cope with the price reflecting loss of mark up on extensions iuswim.

Fedupwife28 · 08/05/2023 21:28

Are these clip in extensions that you only wear for special occasions/when you have your hair done? I think it depends on the salon. The salon I go to would happily pop them in and style them with the rest of your hair (for a charge) but they don’t sell or fit extensions. But then most salons that ‘fit’ extensions don’t just clip them in, they’re taped/sewn in etc which is a completely different service.

My friend bought her own clip in extensions for her wedding and the hairdresser/stylist happily clipped them in for her and styled them. Definitely worth an ask!

Whatabouteverything · 08/05/2023 21:32

This is no different to bringing your own fascinator/hair clips/bows etc. Just tell them in advance and there might be an extra charge that's fine
I wouldn't use the word extensions though because that will confuse them with the proper tied in extensions that people have done
Just say clip in hair pieces.

Testina · 08/05/2023 21:34

Just ask. No-one here can tell you what a specific hairdresser can say!

MagicMatilda · 08/05/2023 21:36

My hairdresser would have no issue with this and also the hairdresser who did my wedding hair did this for me. Probably just call and mention it before you attend

QuizzlyBears · 08/05/2023 21:37

Just ask - in a ‘would this be something you could do’ way. If they won’t do it then they’ll just say and you can figure out a different plan 😊 I’ve had it done before for my wedding - I sourced the extensions and my hairdresser dyed and fit them for the day, but she doesn’t offer extensions as a service usually so it wasn’t like I could have got them from her.

JudgeRudy · 08/05/2023 21:39

It's not rude to ask. Maybe send pics of the extensions over then follow up with a call. Don't forget to give your email/text a name.

shakeitoffsis · 08/05/2023 21:40

Definitely not rude to ask them. My wedding hairdresser did exactly that and she did a fab job.

Elphame · 08/05/2023 21:42

Just ask.

I used to take my own hair dye in to mine as I knew she didn't have the colour I wanted. She was always happy to apply it for me. Obviously I paid for the service which actually didn't save me any money - in fact cost me more but I had the colour I wanted.

Hi hairstylist here 🙋‍♀️ absolutely no problem at all for me, just make sure to mention it when you make the booking so they can potentially book you into a slightly longer slot so they have the time they need, I would possibly charge you upto £10 more if it took me longer than an average head of hair to style the way you request.
