To ask for advice on travelling to Villa Park

We have tickets to see Bruce at Villa Park next month. We will be travelling from the Coventry area. I don’t suppose car is a good idea as getting away from such events is usually an ordeal. So, train to New St? Then to Aston? Will there be plenty of trains to get back to New St afterwards?

It might be easier to just walk back to New Street, it’s not that far.
Enjoy, Bruce is a legend

We're going as well but we're coming from Surrey. It's turning into a nightmare to be honest! DH needs a hip replacement and will struggle with the journey and won't be able to walk far. I've booked a parking space nearby and a hotel for the night but I don't know if that's the best way.

Will look on google maps. Thanks.
we saw Bruce in Coventry a few years back. I’m wondering if this might be his last big tour.

I'm wondering the same which is why I really want to try to get there. That and the fact I can't sell the tickets as they are hospitality!

Train between New St and Aston is pretty convenient and the station isn't too far from the ground. However, not sure if you are familiar with the area at all, but it's not somewhere I would feel comfortable walking at night.

I’m thinking there will be thousands of people around though?

Google maps says it’s about a 50 minute walk; not doable for us as DH has a bad knee ☹️

@Pottedpalm good point!

FancyFlapjack · 05/05/2023 19:08

Tbh, i'm not sure I would walk from Aston Villa to New Street - especially if you don't know the area - there are at least a couple of underpasses to go through to get you past the expressway.

The trains from Aston to New street are pretty much 10 mins until last train just after midnight. There is a 20 min gap once every hour but it is fairly regular and only a 10 min train ride.

Pottedpalm · 05/05/2023 19:08

@Stumbleine 😄
that’s part of the problem; I imagine there will be thousands wanting a train to New Street!

@Pottedpalm I guess there is a difference depending on which side of the ground you are walking from but there's no way I would have said it's 50 minutes!

Oh I'm so jealous!! Saw him at Ricoh Arena in Cov and he was sensational.

I really really wouldn't walk from Aston. It's not the most salubrious of areas even with 1000s of others.

Train to New St or a taxi. It's not far but def not a walk I'd do (& I'm a hardcore Brummie!)

isthewashingdryyet · 05/05/2023 19:11

The walk takes us about thirty mins, but Aston station is nearer. Check the train times. Bad knees are not good to walk on.

Pottedpalm · 05/05/2023 20:12

Looks like there are only a couple of trains an hour from Witton, and one pretty much every 10 mins from Aston, so Aston looks like a better bet. Just hope we can get on a train.
