To think i shouldn’t pay a different price quoted in taxi

its only a small issue but wanted thoughts.

I have a health issue that flares up sometimes, I don’t like to drive when that happens.

Today was one of those days and i booked a round trip taxi on an app. I was quoted a fixed price of £8.30. I brought £10.00 with me for any waiting time. I was in and out within two minutes. The first minute is free then 20p per minute after this with this taxi service.

We arrive back to my house, the taxi man told me it would be £14.80, the app price is wrong they charge £7.40 for one way and then £7.40 for the way back. I could see on his screen he had that, however my screen said £8.30. I told him I was happy to give the £10 for the trip but i had no more change.

Taxi man told me to call the base if i had an issue, the app i booked off is incorrect. We had a standoff, he told me he will not leave from outside my house unless i give him the full fare.

I got my son out the car, came in and called the taxi service to query the app issue, the lady thensaid he should not be sitting outside my house waiting. I ran around the house looking for further change just to get him away, he drove off when i came out with shrapnel.

But what did the lady at the taxi base actually say about the app issue?

How come you couldn't pay from the app? That's normal for any taxi app I've seen. You would only be charged what the app said then.

You can pay from the app. I’m assuming it’s the same as where I live. You put in the destinations, it gives you a quote, when you click confirm and pay it automatically takes roughly almost double what they quoted you. This happens with the 3 most popular taxi firms in my city so I’ve never bothered reporting it, they can clearly get away with it

Sounds to me like you booked a one way journey to your destination on the app?

Did you actually do a multi part journey and say you wanted to go to the place, wait and return? My local taxi firms app does not allow this to be done via the app it seems, as I can’t see how to add extra stops.

Your error I would say. Call to book next time.

Taxi driver probably waited because if he is short changed at the end of the day I suppose the difference comes out of his own pocket!
