To not want to do a 'fun quiz' for my colleagues?

At work every week we have these team meetings, and each week we all take it in turns to create a quiz or some kind of icebreaker activity to do at the start of the meeting. I absolutely hate it and think it's pointless. So far, I've managed to get out of it as initially it was volunteers. However, my manager has just asked me to do this week's quiz. I'm in my notice period and my last day is next week, I thought I'd gotten out of having to do it.

I have avoidant personality disorder and this kind of thing is my worst nightmare. I know I'm over-reacting

You're not overreacting at all I would loathe that and I don't have avoidant personality disorder. Do you have an occ health dept? If so I would raise your diagnosis with them and ask to be excused as it would be a living hell for you to do a quiz. Poor you at worst pull a sickie don't do it x

‘No thank you!’
‘Aww why, everyone else does it’
’thats great, they can continue that.[change subject]’

LadyHag · 02/05/2023 15:41

Just pick Horrible History questions. I did that, went down a treat.

This. Maybe with added 'this is not my sort of thing / not for me, thanks'

What a horrendous, cringey waste of time. There are team quizzes where I work but they're not linked to meetings, there is no pressure to attend, and the person who organises it genuinely loves it. This just sounds awful, and very unfair on those who are not keen

PiffleIsTakingThePiss · 02/05/2023 15:50

Ah, you're the one who had to do the 'show and tell' or the power point presentation? There's a lot going on in that office. When do you leave?

NumberTheory · 02/05/2023 15:51

You could do a quiz centered around all the great things about moving on to a new job!

Seriously, if your boss has only just asked you, tell them you really don’t want to do it and ask them to pick someone else. If it’s been a while since she asked, suck it up and look something up online. Don’t put much effort into it.

YukoandHiro · 02/05/2023 15:52

Use chatgpt to generate something and then blame the AI if it's shite

gannett · 02/05/2023 15:52

Your last day is next week. You don't owe them anything, especially something so pointless. Just say no, sorry, that won't work for you. They can't make you do anything.

If you're the same poster, I'm wondering when does anyone get any work done in your place????

maxelly · 02/05/2023 16:01

Have PPs missed the fact OP is leaving next week? Really no point messing around complaining or going to OH at this stage, the options really are (a) point blank refuse, risk awkwardness for the last few days (b) say nothing and be 'sick' on the day of the meeting, risk awkwardness/pay docked etc (c) do a really half arsed job (use the link above or something similarly crap from the first page of google) (d) actually do the task (would probably take maybe 20 mins to find something like an emoji quiz and put it onto slides). I get that people don't like this stuff/find it cringy but actual disabilities aside, it is not an unreasonable ask from the manager and it is a way many people find acceptable to bond with colleagues when working remotely - we all have to do things we don't like at work sometimes, is this really that much different?

W0tnow · 02/05/2023 16:03

@maxelly crap???

<leaves thread and slams door>

Whatabouteverything · 02/05/2023 16:09

Do Drawasaurus! You don't have to do anything except load it on the screen. Bloody brilliant.

That sounded like a fun thing to do with the kids so I checked it out. First pic, a crude vagina. Wtf?

Pardon? I think you looked at the wrong thing. You have to draw, it doesn't come up with drawings.

Arginalia · 02/05/2023 17:34

Just get one off the internet.

Needmorelego · 02/05/2023 17:42

If you are the same person as the "Show and Tell" thread tell them "No I will NOT be doing this. You know the reasons why. I am leaving in a week. I am NOT DOING IT".
Once you have left put in a formal complaint of harassment - because that's what this was.
If you are different person to the "Show and Tell" thread then just word what I suggested slightly differently.
"I am leaving in a week. I will NOT be doing this. I don't want to and I am not going to".

Arginalia · 02/05/2023 18:03
  1. Google 'trivia quiz'
  2. Download a suitable quiz and the answers
  3. Display quiz to colleagues
  4. Say 'Here's the quiz, you have 10 mins (or whatever time you need to fill) to answer it.
  5. Display answers
  6. Say 'Here are the answers, tot up how many you got right and shout out your total'.
  7. Say 'And the winner is Susan - well done, Susan, let's have a round of applause for Susan'
CSIblonde · 02/05/2023 18:10

I'd say I'm on it but its not finished yet, on repeat ,until you leave. In my most memorable maternity cover job ( for a multitude of gobsmackinh f*kwittery reasons) in v high level Government office in London: "Please create a 30 questione team quiz , based on our font policies , by tomorrow". Final straw, I left .

ItsNotWhatItsNot · 02/05/2023 18:11

Or; don’t.

Yes but you also have to guess what other people are drawing!

Yes? But you control who's in the group you set up- you set the password.i assume you played against some random online?

Anc0 · 02/05/2023 20:46

Just take the advice you got from your last thread about the almost exact same situation not so long ago...?
Your work certainly seems to have various types of activities at the start of a meeting, first a last minute presentation now a last minute quiz.

tourdefrance · 02/05/2023 20:48

Font policies @CSIblonde ?? Like Times New Roman vs Arial?

Or was that a typo?

TheCatterall · 02/05/2023 20:53

I’d do a quiz involving negative stats on enforced ‘fun’ in the work place and how it lowers morale.
