Suspected fake from Vinted - what would you do?

Specifically, a Ted Baker bag, not current season though. Seller sells quite a few by the looks of it, she says a family member is an employee and she gets them from staff sample sales. She has quite a few good reviews, no bad ones. I had no reason to suspect a fake til it arrived and the inside label is stitched in wonky and is visible from the outside of the bag (pic attached). She says staff samples are often retail rejects, so this could be why. She seems to have a reasonable answer for everything, so it could all be true and I don't want to get her in trouble if it is. Equally, I don't want to be scammed if it's just a good story! To add, I've taken it into my local Ted Baker and they can't tell for certain either way. Not sure where to go from here?! What would you do?!

Doesn't sound like there's a lot you can do. If Ted Baker aren't even sure of its legitimacy you can't exactly accuse of her selling fakes because you can't prove it. It's part of the risk of buying online consumer to consumer.

Flymeaway4 · 29/04/2023 10:04

Yes, fair point. I suppose if they're not sure then maybe it doesn't even matter!!

I have a few samples from higher end brands and there are indeed often imperfections. You could ask her can you return or give her some feedback privately to flag those flaws in future listings, if you'd rather keep it?

Lockheart · 29/04/2023 10:11

If you like the bag, keep it, if you don't, return it. If you want to be certain you're getting genuine goods, don't buy from Vinted but go to the actual stores.

liveforsummer · 29/04/2023 10:15

If you like the bag and it's decent quality does it even matter? The staff at red baker couldn't even tell so I assume it is ok quality

FunkyMonks · 29/04/2023 10:25

She could be telling the truth there's a lot of Ted Baker outlets they could be getting factory rejects and selling them because they aren't passing the Quality check they do remove the labels then to stop re sell etc.

I'm always suspicious when it comes to buying designer stuff off sites like eBay Vinted unless they can provide proof of purchase or accurate label details.

I've recently sold and bought on Vinted and I have taken Pictures of everything from Box to stamp on item to prove it's legit and a pair of trainers I purchased I double checked like you with the retailer to confirm they were legit.

Clymene · 29/04/2023 10:27

It's a sample. They're often a bit wonky which is why they're cheap.

Erex · 29/04/2023 10:31

Does it matter, if even the staff at Ted Baker can't tell? If you're happy with it and were happy with the price, then unless the imperfections are too much, it sounds fine.
No-one else is going to be inspecting your bag for authenticity, 99% of people won't even register the brand of your bag or even notice it. If you're really not happy you can return it, but I'm sure you have to pay for returns on Vinted.

How much did you pay for it compared to its rrp?

Do Ted Baker bags hold value as a designer/collectable?

(I know nothing about designer and collectable btw, so don't know if it's as valuable as say Chanel or Gucci)

Flymeaway4 · 29/04/2023 13:49

No, not chanel/gucci level, it's a higher end high street brand, but the prints are quite popular, so I'd imagine quite lucrative in the counterfeit market too. In hindsight perhaps I should have considered that before purchase and asked more questions. Live and learn! And as many have said, if Ted Baker themselves can't tell, then who am I to question it?!
