Trains that pass through an airport but have almost no luggage space

I often take trains that go through either Gatwick or Southampton Airport Parkway. At both these stations a whole bunch of people with suitcases get on and are then a bit flummoxed because there isn’t anywhere for the suitcases to go.

There’s a rack above the seats but it won’t take much more than a soft bag and coat. The Gatwick train does have a couple of luggage racks but nowhere near enough for all the luggage. AIBU to think this is actually quite weird?

Its either seats or baggage space.
In the olden days there were luggage vans.

It is a terrible design of train carriages for airport routes.
I remember going on the Waterloo - Weymouth train about 12 years ago. The train stopped at Portsmouth and Southampton (both ferry and cruise ship ports) and Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth (all holiday destinations) plus the New Forest (camping area).
Lets just say if anyone had required the wheelchair space they wouldn't have had a hope. Luggage was stacked from floor to ceiling. If people were willing to move their luggage - there was literally no where to put it.
Amusingly while on that holiday we went on the Steam Train at Swanage. It was just out of holiday season so lots of babies/toddlers in prams and pushchairs.
"Pushchairs in the Guards Van please" said the cheery old fella. It was brilliant. Everyone neatly put them in out of the way. One mum even left the sleeping baby in hers 🤣

Yes! The train from Waterloo is the one I mean. It’s quite expensive and is often absolutely full of people with massive suitcases.

I knew before I opened the thread you would be talking about the Gatwick trains!

Not just Waterloo. Commuting on the Reading - Gatwick line was hell during holiday season.
