To ask why one tonsil is swollen so much and sore throat?

Sorry for photo! Uploaded two in different lighting as not sure what shows it clearer. In real life it’s much redder than either photo (whole area). (My tongue is not yellow either that’s just from tea I had just drank to try to soothe throat ) But wondering if anyone ever had one tonsil swell up like a golf ball and sore throat? Basically I’ve never seen my tonsil look like this has anyone had experience? Not going to GP unnecessarily. I had a cough yesterday and sore throat came after. I can’t taste properly either. Hoping to be better for work tomorrow so trying to figure out what it can be. Took a covid test yesterday and it was negative.

I have a lot of bad throats and yes often one tonsil is bigger than the other. Mine are generally big from a lot of tonsillitis infections over the years. Sometimes if I get a bad sinus on one side that tonsil is up too.

@Snoopystick Thanks for sharing! I had never seen it so wasn’t sure if I should make an apt. It looks like it’s popped out!

If you get white spots on it and temperature then I’d ring GP. If not gargling cooled down boiling water with a bit of salt in it is soothing and take paracetamol / ibuprofen 🙂
