Window cleaner did a bad job, AIBU to cancel the clean?

Neighbour arranged for a window cleaner to come to clean a total of four houses. Two aren't happy, subsequently the window cleaner won't come back as not worth it.

I wasn't happy as there was always water marks on the windows from where they didn't remove the excess water from the squeegee so I would be going out afterwards and tidying it up. Also there are a few heavy marks that they didn't attempt to clean, they did a really quick job.

I didn't bring it up with them. AIBU to just cancel? I didn't realise they wouldn't clean my other neighbours.

YANBU.
Why should you continue to have your windows poorly cleaned? Let them find an alter window cleaner.

I should have asked them to do a better job? I've had it done twice. I watched them the first time and second time had to leave a note telling them to clean some bird crap that they missed. Should I really have to do that?

We had a window cleaner who didn't clean properly so we cancelled. They were good at the start then just went downhill. The owner came back on 2/3 occasions to re-clean but by then we'd had enough. He occasionally asks if he can have our business back but we stand firm and say no.

Why on earth would this be unreasonable?

Neighbour thinks I should have told them they did a bad job;

And? It doesn't matter. You decided you don't want your windows done by them. It's not really that much of a big deal.

Reugny · 26/04/2023 17:34

If they did a bad job then cancel.

It's too much hassle dealing with correcting bad work.

And it is your house not your neighbours.

Your neighbour is being unreasonable - you didn't sign up to a joint window service for the rest of your life. You could have cancelled for any reason - wanting to save money, move home, etc. It's the window cleaner who decided that doing 2 houses wasn't worth their time, that's not your decision.

Given you cancelled after the 2nd time it's not as if you're disrupting a long standing agreement - they can just find another window cleaner to just do their windows (which is what most people do anyway, rather than entering into some joint services cooperative agreement) or go back to whatever they were doing before.

I don't understand why she questioned me.

Window cleaner messaged me asking "how come" and then messaged her straight away saying it's cancelled. To which she messaged me.... and he sent me that annoying "???" Message after 13 minutes.

Lol

We had a window cleaner who was so bad it looked like he'd cleaned my windows with lard. He was such a nice chap I just didn't have the heart to sack him.

Sixfaithfulservingfriends · 26/04/2023 21:57

no you shouldn’t have to do that.

We cancelled our window cleaner recently as we weren’t happy. Window cleaner messaged DH. Unknown to me DH agreed for him to come back and do a clean for free to rectify the issues, I’d have told him not to bother.
We are now in the situation where he’s cleaned for free and they still aren’t clean imo. I don’t want him back again, I’m annoyed enough with DH, so I think it’s ridiculous your neighbour thinks they should get to have an opinion on what you do with your windows.

I don't know if I'm expecting too much.

I would expect windows to be cleaned with some sort of scourer to get rid of dirt etc. instead they use a wet cloth thing with some foamy chemical thing on it.

They also leave wet water on the window from where they haven't fully squeezed it of. Ideally they should be using a cloth to get rid of this excess.

But yes my neighbour needs to understand I don't care if she likes the clean, I don't have to do business anymore.
