Britain (and AIBU) are a race to the bottom

I realise there is a COL crisis, but it really does seem like the politics of envy on here. Thread after thread asking how much people earn for private schools; how much for a SAHP; holidays; living in London etc etc etc. And then everyone getting triggered by the fact that people do earn more, or use private schools or whatever.

Don't people look around them and see different levels of wealth every second of every day? There is an attitude on here like. "if I can't afford something, nobody should..." Every thread becomes a race to the bottom with people virtue signalling about what is and what is not 'tone deaf' or acceptable to post about.

But this is the internet fgs. Why take threads personally or compare yourselves to total strangers. Of course people live differently.

Is it any surprise that many / most of the highest earners in the U.K. were not born here or from immigrant cultures? Is it any surprise that the much-bemoaned private schools are full of their children? AIBU to think that this country is in a malaise and its a negative spiral of low aspiration, blame culture, mediocrity and a race to the bottom?
