I have always wanted to visit the Bahamas since I can remember and H and I have a chance for a child free holiday thanks to my parents offering to have them while we go away

I found a really good AI deal (btw I'm paying for us both as it's only in the last couple years I've been earning well H has always paid for stuff and now I really want to treat us) . But H is a bit unsure as he basically feels it's a glorified beach holiday and we could do similar more local and cheaper. Tbh I'm totally fine with a relaxing beach holiday 😂 but want him to enjoy it as much as I am sure I will .

So if anyone has been, how was it ? Is there much to do outside of the resort in Nassau itself and is it safe to explore ...As that is his main concern

The resort btw is the Sandals Royal Bahamian if anyone has been there

Thanks in advance !!

I’m sure you’ll have a great time if you go. I’ve been to that Sandals, and if I’m honest it wasn’t my favorite. There isn’t anything in particular that put me off but I think there are better islands to stay on.

I would look at Barbados, Grenada, or St. Lucia. All 3 have better opportunities to go off resort and spend time on the island. I’ve stayed t Sandals on 2 of the 3 islands and would recommend them over the Royal Bahamian.

I’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have. Sandals I would unreservedly recommend they are super easy to work with and fabulous resorts.

The pig excursion we have booked through sandals and atlantis and baha mar are local so we will just take a taxi. They do several different pig excursions , we are doing the one that also takes you to swim with nurse sharks and iguana island as well

Ahh I see what you mean

Sorry - misunderstood- Thought you meant you were going to the Bahamas just for a day (as you can do day trips from Miami)

If you’re set on the swimming with the pigs but are rethinking staying on the island there are some reasonable island hopper flights. Fly to the Bahamas, swim with the piggies, then take a hop to another island to stay.

It was disgustingly expensive at The Atlantis Bahamas!
Also- pig island- far too expensive for 20 mins with the pigs. (Also they bite!)

have planned a few trips including swimming with pigs its a all day trip

The pig trip is a nice day out but be warned there isn't really much swimming by the pigs.

They are conditioned to expect food when the tourists turn up so the most they do is paddle in the water a bit to get to the people holding food.

The tourist brochures have beautiful women holding swimming cute piglets.

Reality is whopping enormous boar like things that don't really want to swim.

I wouldn't let it put you off though as the water/beach is lovely, you get a nice lunch and on the trip I went on also stopped at another island to feed iguanas.

I’ve stayed in Baha Mar, which was nice but apart from swimming pigs, there’s not much else to do outside of the hotel. Went on a couple of excursions but it’s not that amazing. We had a lovely time as the hotel was amazing, but we could have been anywhere.

We have been there on a cruise and it was the least favourite of our stops and the weather was iffy. Bit further south and weather more guaranteed I think. St Thomas was lovely as was St Maarten.
