Has anyone ever used a life coach?

If so what did or do you use them for and did they help you?

I see people offering 1-2-1 life coaching but it never says exactly what it is they do or how much it costs?

Organisational psychologists can be good for specific work challenges, as can work coaches who have solid track records. I knew a long-term transformation partner in a major consultancy who did it as a retirement gig and he was good.
But generic life coaches? I would be very careful unless you get a great recommendation.

I went to a wedding coach while I
planned my wedding, to be honest, she was brilliant. Really helped me overcome my nerves and issues with family members. It was for a specific item; but highly rate the experience.

Be very very careful.
I have a friend who got pulled into Lighthouse. He has completely lost sight of why he joined in the first place, he's lost his flat, he ditched his job, he's lost touch with most of his friends, he can't maintaining a relationship. It's tragic.
That's not to say there are not some great coaches out there, but just to be careful who you trust. Good luck with it all 🤞

There are qualified coaches (I'm one - I have a MA amongst other qualifications). It's still a newish field and has its issues like other fields did snd do. Look on the Association for Coaching website to find people that are a: registered with a professional body and b: their qualifications and experience to find a good fit.

Anyone can say they are a life coach or a counsellor. They sell snake oil. Avoid.

Get a personal recommendation or maybe even try a book first?

I work with someone who does life coaching as a sideline and to be honest they are the last person I would ever take any guidance from on life!

Totally lacks empathy and the advice to everyone is to go for a run😩

That said , I knew someone years ago who was at a crossroads in their life and had a couple of sessions with someone and found it really helpful.
