For being annoyed I was asked to stand on a bus because of dog allergies?

I went to visit a friend in London today and I took my dog. It's worth noting she is a mini poodle, and hypoallergenic, and well behaved. You can barely even tell she's there. I got on the bus as part of my journey. It was the middle of the day so there were a few empty seats (but not loads).

I got on and sat down, and the woman a few rows behind me said 'can you move , I have a dog allergy'. I apologised and moved a few rows forwards, the furthest forwards I could go and still get a seat.

She then shouted forwards 'not far enough, you're going have to stand at the front'.

I was confused, but did it. I spent the rest of the 35 minute journey standing right at the front of the bus while the woman was 3/4 of the way along, sitting.

I did what she said for the journey, but when I got off I felt annoyed and I'm not sure if I'm justified.

@Fourteenhouses if I was a dog owner. (I'm not) I'd have left the dog outside if the allergy was an issue. But not because he was having a meltdown.

Erex · 24/04/2023 22:43

I don't think most people act as entitled as the lady on the bus and a certain other poster on this thread, demanding that dogs be removed from public places. The entitlement is staggering.

@TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl

"Having a dog is not the same as having a child."
You are right about that.
Dogs are much better. Less annoying and much more loyal.
Dog owners are nicer than most parents and a lot less entitled.

Dogs like you because you feed and walk them, not because of your sparkling personality. If they went to a new owner tomorrow they’d forget all about you. Don’t kid yourself you have a sacred bond. You only like dogs because they do what they’re told and don’t answer back.

You put your child in a situation that they couldn’t deal with. Would it not have been more sensible to remove them from the situation that was causing them so much distress?

We had just sat down with food etc and ds like to do what he’s planned to do - if I’d have said ‘right we are going’ it would have been terrible for him . Why would I do that ? Dogs aren’t more important than a child

DrMeredithGrey2023 · 24/04/2023 22:44

Well luckily the owner was helpful and made them leave as could clearly see what was the right thing to do

@Fourteenhouses yes, luckily the owner had the presence of mind to change the situation your son was in, as obviously it's too much to ask that you do that by asking a simple question

Am I the only person thinking just go upstairs, where there are more seats and less complaining.

Not possible on a single decker bus.

And that would have been fine - one of the dogs was very jumpy/barking/ quite young I think and he was really stressed .A dog outside the cafe if there was space ( there wasn’t an outside seating area etc where we went) would have been no issue

DrMeredithGrey2023 · 24/04/2023 22:46

Could you let my dog know this please? He doesn't seem to have gotten the memo 🤣

And I am sure your kids love you because of your sparkling personality. 😂
You've literally spent the last 30 mins swearing at everyone who disagrees with you.

No such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, size is irrelevant.

The woman's allergies are more important than your animal.

You are very mistaken. Hypoallergenic dogs do not have fur, but hair (like yours - if you are not bald and mine). You are not allergic to hair, are you? Be nice, people. Life will be better for all of us.

Because for better or worse, we can't dictate what other people do when they are doing what they are perfectly entitled to do and aren't breaking any laws. We have to take care of ourselves and our children, not make demands on other people.

Charlize43 · 24/04/2023 22:46

A friend of mine who was mauled as a child (and has some nasty scars) is terrified of dogs.

I don't understand why they are suddenly all over the tube and buses. Not everyone likes dogs. Imagine if people started travelling with their pet pythons around their necks?

ScribblingPixie · 24/04/2023 22:46

it sounds like a batshit world in that London

Well in my part of batshit London literally every cafe and 90 per cent of the restaurants welcome dogs. It obviously makes sense for the businesses, so those who object either like it or lump it.

They do thank you.

I don’t think I’ve sworn at anyone

Assistance dogs are and it’s explained in the Equality Act 2010. They also don’t need to be ‘labelled’, wear vests or have anything on them saying they are assistance dogs. I’m surprised the cafe owner didn’t clarify if the people asked to leave had assistance dogs with them tbh.

Less annoying to whom? The dog owner maybe, but not to lots of other people..

The owner acted as if they knew the women so I assume already knew they weren’t assistance dogs

VivX · 24/04/2023 22:49

Fourteenhouses · 24/04/2023 21:56

it would depend who was there first in that instance. If we were then yes they’d have to leave, if they were already there then we would have had to leave.

This is definitely not how it works.
It's not a first-come-first-served scenario.

Don't try to prevent guide dog entering an establishment.

Suzi888 · 24/04/2023 22:49

@Fourteenhouses but the WWYD if they were. I’m surprised you’ve not more compassion considering.

On top of hating dogs, you clearly have a very bad memory too!
You are literally calling people 'c*unts' in the above post... 🙄
