To be terrified of starting a new job

Been a SAHM for 16 years and now my youngest has started started school, I have been on the look out for a job.
No qualifications or experience in anything.
Due to one of my DC having a disability, I am slightly limited to days and hours i can do as she isn't in school full time.
Anyway- local pub needs a cleaner.
Days and hours that I can do, hurrah.
Interview and trial in the morning and I am so so scared.
I've cleaned my house millions of times but a pub? It seems like the lowest of the low job wise but I am genuinely terrified I get it all wrong or don't do a good enough job.

I don't see ANY job as the 'lowest of the low' and I think to suggest that is incredibly insulting for people that make their career from cleaning.

It's probably minimum wage, yes, but it's flexible and you are doing what you need to do to raise your family.

Be proud. Go for the interview. Go well.

They will want someone reliable. Turn up on time, smile/eye contact. They should walk you through what is required eg polish, hoover, toilets. Good luck. If they ask why say you enjoy cleaning and job fits your schedule.

Sorry I didn't mean lowest of the low in that sense I meant to some people it's probably a job they wouldn't be worried over and that's why I feel so stupid but I'm in knots. .I'm not applying to be a brain surgeon or the P.M so it may seem like an "easy" job I think is what I meant, no disrespect meant in the slightest.

Good luck OP!

I’m an operations director for a pub company. Cleaners are immensely important. The key is to be reliable & be thorough. Creating a clean and tidy environment for people is a great thing. Good luck 🤞🏻

I've been in that same position, long term stay at home mum wanting a job and doubting myself.
Go in there and be positive, ask questions....even how long have u worked here...shows interest.
Good luck, you got this!

You will be ace. Chill.

savoycabbage · 24/04/2023 23:21

Good luck and let us know how it went.

In interviews, remember they want to give you the job. That's why they asked you there.

pimplebum · 25/04/2023 16:19

After day one you will look back and laugh you got so twisted up about it

Recently I was sobbing in my car screaming I can't do it I was very hormonal because I had to go back. 2 months after having baby bee distressed ringing Samaritans at 6 in the morning. But I look back on it as a hormone meltdown and wish I could have posted a letter to myself from the future

You say you have no qualifications. Why not look into sorting that ?

All the best xx

I've been cleaning years. You'll be fine. Give you a bit of exercise, it's quite satisfying, and as long as you're physically able, there's nothing to it. Good luck
