What do people think (particularly Americans reading this) of Seymore Herch's allegations of American involvement in the bombing of the Nordstream pipeline?

Follow the money. The biggest beneficiaries of any war, disaster, incident are usually the perpetrators.

Mmm. Well it certainly wasn't the Russians who benefited from it, but it would be such an incredibly reckless thing for the American's to do, if it was proved to be true so I don't know?

But this seems plausible enough. Obviously Russia has no interest in destroying a source of income. Germany needs the gas. Scandinavian countries have the means but not the motive. Poles? Just possible I suppose. Ukraine too far away.

Seymour Hersch seems to be striking a chord with some but to be honest most people don't care enough.

I'm American and I'm horrified. I completely believe that the US government is capable of doing it. Anything to keep the Military Industrial Complex humming along. I love my country in a lot of ways, but as a retired military officer I can tell you first hand that arrogance and corruption are rampant among the highest levels of the military, diplomatic establishment and defense corporations.

Sorry not to reply sooner or frame it around an AIBU- I think the question would have to be AIBU to think that the Americans were involved in the destruction of the Nordstream pipeline?
Obviously there is no proof of it and it's just a theory- Seymore Herch may be misled or misinformed.
If true and evidence comes to light then I think that it would have the most damaging impact on public opinion in Germany as it would be an indirect act of aggression against them.

Yes if it is true, I hope the UK isn't involved.

In this day and age. With many intelligence services, many special forces groups, ect with many different official and non official state actors, all with different perspectives and different objectives, who's to say what's really true or not.
Then when special ops, are used etc, they know if you want to make the mission look like X country then you use their military outfits, their weapons ect so it would all look like it was that country.

So basically it's a mystery unless your in the intelligence circles with connections that can understand or have links to the relevant information

I reckon it is Chinese - disrupt International relations further- deeper distrust further to prevent any cooling on tensions between Russia and the west - aim for deepenjng Russian and Chinese relations as double super power against the west while they take Taiwan. Especially as Chinese and US relations are v tense right now.

However there is evidence of Russian ships operating- their benefit is continued destabilising of Europe and increase in energy crisis - that is sufficient motive for Russia to do this imo.

If Russia wants to increase energy prices etc they can just switch off the gas on some pretext.
Why go to all this trouble?
