to ask how long passports are currently taking to be renewed online?

Passport Office are quoting 10-13 weeks, but is this correct in people’s actual experience? I’ve got a window of opportunity to renew it online but it would seem weird (and potentially a massive problem since I don’t always plan my holidays far in advance) to be without one for three months.

Keen to know this too - DH sent his in and we need it back by June

But to you, send it in when you have a window or risk being without one when you need one!

Songlines · 20/04/2023 15:19

Mine went in on 10/04, has been saying 'we have received your old passport ' since 12/04.
Like you, I had a window to do it, so I'm keeping everything crossed

Mine was done in 10 working days, from online submission to getting it back. I did have a digital photo taken which was checked before it was submitted so I knew it would be OK. If you give them your email/mobile you'll get updated at each step of the way. I was very pleasantly surprised

summerlovingvibes · 20/04/2023 15:30

Not necessarily helpful but we did 2 (DH renewal and DD's first) before the passport office strikes a few weeks ago and both were back within 2 weeks. Was very quick turnaround IMO..

Oxo01 · 20/04/2023 15:40

I done renewal online theyvadvised possible 6vweek wait, I completed mine on 26th Feb by 10th march it was printed, and received in post few days later. (This was with a few days delay on my part )
I paid for tracking service, and was kept up to date each stage. Maybe bit longer now as holiday season ahead though.

VincentVaguer · 20/04/2023 15:42

I did dds in a panic just before the strikes and it took 10 days!

PercyPhelps · 20/04/2023 15:46

It took 13 days when I applied at the end of March. I had the photos taken in Timpsons and they checked they met the requirements. From the text updates the longest delay in the process was between me posting our old passports off and them receiving them even though I sent them tracked 24.

YANBU

Two weeks for first passport. I was surprised! Some staff were striking but most weren't.

Justfornow28 · 20/04/2023 16:30

Renewed mine online on 26th march, new one was arrived last week.

JellyBeanFactory · 20/04/2023 16:33

10 days turnaround and that was over the Easter period.

MeDearNoDear · 20/04/2023 16:41

I submitted mine on 20 March @MrsFezziwig

MojacaSunset · 20/04/2023 16:42

I have recently renewed ds 15 passport. It was much quicker than expected. I did the form online and posted off his old passport a couple of days later.

Passport printed 5:58am on 20 April 2023
Application approved 2:31pm on 19 April 2023Documents received 6:30pm on 11 April 2023
Application received 2:20pm on 5 April 2023
Application submitted 2:19pm on 5 April 2023

strivingtosucceed · 20/04/2023 17:18

I had an issue with my application after applying late Jan and had to send some additional documents, I still got it before the end of March.

Lachimolala · 20/04/2023 17:25

Just had a look at my texts, I applied on the 15th Jan, friend provided their details on 21st Jan, they received our old ones on 26th Jan, got approved on the 27th and delivered by the 31st.

So 16 days total, perhaps be quicker if friend provided details sooner and we didn’t have to send old ones back etc.

Cotswoldmama · 20/04/2023 17:26

The passport office acknowledged receipt of the birth certificates I sent off for my son's first passports the day the strikes started and we received them exactly 2 weeks later!

Songlines · 21/04/2023 14:25

To update, just had notification that mine's been approved. So that's 7 working days

GertrudesGreens · 21/04/2023 15:01

We recently did 2 renewals online - one took a lot longer (for unknown reasons) than the other which was sent in the same batch! literally about 3 weeks difference. The first was sorted within a super quick time, about 4 weeks if i recall, while the other one lagged at about ~7 weeks. it was very odd/unexpected!

Kidsaregrim · 21/04/2023 15:05

I applied on the 18th march and it was delivered on the 29th march

Passthewinebottle · 21/04/2023 15:07

Received 2 renewals back last week. 8 & 9 calendar days from the day they received the old ones to the day they landed on my door mat 👍🏼

VariationsonaTheme · 21/04/2023 15:12

Mine arrived this week, 12 days from the online application.

StrawberrySquash · 21/04/2023 15:15

Mine took under two weeks a month or two back. I've no complicating factors. Might be worse now if there was a rush after they announced a strike.

MrsFezziwig · 21/04/2023 15:40

Thanks all! Seems the waiting time is generally less than the horror stories depict. I was debating fast track but not cheap at £150, however I’ve just noticed that it’s £82.50 for normal renewal so not such a great difference. Might have another day out in Peterborough!

I applied on-line on 12th March and received on 18th March. If I'd known it would be so quick, I would have held off a bit.
