AIBU or stupid to get another chair

I’ve only got a small living come kitchen room and live alone with few visitors. I want to get a small rocking chair but my daughter says there’s not enough room and I’ll trip over it. What do you think yes or no to a chair?

Another thing was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what I could put my sliding doors as I hate the curtains. I do go in and out to my small balcony numerous times a day so I’m thinking blinds not suitable?

Your room looks lovely! Get a rocking chair if you'd like one.

For the windows would some privacy stickers work?

Lifetree One Way Window Film: Reflective Window UV Film, Mirror Anti Glare Window Film Privacy One Way Clear Heat Control Window Tint Film Sun Blocker for Home, Office (Silver, 44.5 * 200cm) amzn.eu/d/gYjiTkI

Just be aware people can see in when your lights are on and it is dark outside! 😆

You are a grown up op. Get what you want! Did your dd always take your advice?

lovemelongtime · 20/04/2023 14:32

Your room looks lovely but if you add another chair it will look cluttered. Either replace me of the existing chairs with a rocker or leave it. Why do you want to cover the windows?

Kranke · 20/04/2023 14:34

It looks very dark, and I think adding another piece of furniture will make it look even darker and cluttered. Can you get rid of one of the chairs and swap for a rocking chair?

Buffysoldersister · 20/04/2023 14:35

Get some perfect fit blinds - they click into the window and you can move them to cover any part. Like these https://www.blinds-2go.co.uk/perfect-fit. They don't take up very much space when closed and you can push them to the bottom rather than the top if you want to maximise the light.

Sorry, just seen they are sliding doors and not French ones so wouldn't work

nomoredriving · 20/04/2023 14:36

Oh I love your chairs, where did you get them from?

<misses point of thread>

fairlygoodmother · 20/04/2023 14:36

Your room is beautiful. From your picture I wouldn’t add another chair, but if you need or want one get it anyway! Could you get an outdoor one maybe that you keep on the balcony but bring in when you need extras seating?

is it those curtains that you hate, or curtains in general?

EllenLRipley · 20/04/2023 14:37

Love the GPlan sideboard OP. I would get an ercol chair. Gorgeous.

FlounderingFruitcake · 20/04/2023 14:41

Don’t see how you’d get another chair in there sorry! Money no object get privacy glass you can turn on/off for the balcony doors. And can I just say that you have great taste. I’ve been lusting after that coffee table for a while but alas it will have to wait until the toddler outgrows his climbing phase!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 20/04/2023 15:00

Love the sideboard. My parents had one exactly the same in their house when I was growing up. Only just got rid of it as house is now sold and care home beckons 😞

minipie · 20/04/2023 15:06

Lovely room! I can’t imagine where a rocking chair would fit though- where were you intending to put it?

For the sliding doors - we have nothing at all over our sliding doors. It works for us but I know some people would find it too exposed. If you want more privacy I would choose lightweight sheer curtains, in a linen look fabric.

tatteddear · 20/04/2023 15:21

You may fit a small one in to the right of your sideboard where the plant (?)) is now-but I don't think the room needs one really.

QueenSmartypants · 20/04/2023 15:30

Wow you have a beautiful room!

You have a clear sense of style and proportion, I'm sure if its possible to make an extra chair fit you will manage it. (Could it be kept in the hallway or bedroom when not needed?)

Does it have to be a rocking chair?

As to curtains...Is it all curtains you dislike or just those ones?

TokyoSushi · 20/04/2023 15:43

Oh it's lovely! I think you have to swap the rocking chair for something rather than adding it.

IhearyouClemFandango · 20/04/2023 15:45

You can always get blinds that sit in the panes

Nordicrain · 20/04/2023 15:49

lovely room but I don't think it can take more furniture. If you need more seats I would probably replace one chair with a sofa, so you have sofa and two chairs. That woudl probably fit better.

YesitsBess · 20/04/2023 15:50

That is such a beautiful room! Both chairs are lovely but I agree that a 3rd might be overdoing it. Can you swap one out for a mid century sliding rocker?

Mortimercat · 20/04/2023 16:51

I wouldn’t add another chair, I think it will look cluttered if you do. I also think your curtains are nice as they are.

@Buffysoldersister thanks for this link. I just forwarded the link to my husband so we can get some for our garden office to use this summer.

Bertha1924 · 20/04/2023 21:38

Thanks all for your suggestions and will take the census that the room is a bit small for a rocking chair. Not a fan of curtains and I can almost the text on the television in the fat opposite so blinds might be the way to go.
